So if Kevin Durant wins a ring in Oklahoma City alongside Westbrook, it would be more impressive than if, say, he came to the Knicks and single-handedly revitalized the franchise and won, just because OKC is a shithole and New York is one of the most important cities in the world?

#38Couple thoughts on this thread...someone mentioned Kobes injuries and how Duncan never had to deal with them...um Duncan has had one good knee since around 2000, and no good knees since 2005ish. I dont think anyone watched basketball pre 2005 if you think Duncan never took over a game like Kobe took over games....1999 finals, 21,22 years old? And he straight up DOMINATED in those playoffs and that finals, go back and watch the tape...nobody could stop him. Many people dont remember pre knee surgery Timmy since the majority of his career has been on bad knees and he was still able to be great and win 2 mvps after the fact. Albeit easier to do as a big man than an explosive perimeter player like Kobe. Not to mention the number of times Timmy has come back from the dead...he looked done in 2008 or 09 when they got beat by the suns im the first round. Never seen him look so bad on the court as he did that year.
All in all, its hard to compare a sg to a pf on a player level. Careers were both filled with greatness and they will both go down as two of the greatest ever.Comment -

It makes it less or more impressive to win a ring in any given year to look at the teammates of the star player, not the fukking city they play for.
OKC is boatloads over the cap since they decided to match that Kanter offer sheet, have so much talent they can't even find enough (or any) minutes for guys who would be rotation players on most other playoff teams... Yet it would be impressive to win in Oklahoma City just because it's Oklahoma City?

#47Do you guys think that if Duncan announced his retirement he would get this type of reception from every away crowd?
There is a 0 percent chance.
That tells you everything you need to know about who is a better player.
Tony Parker himself said "kobe was our jordan."
Every player in the league knew that Kobe was the best player in the world for almost a decade. No one would ever mention Duncan as the best. Top 5 or 10 in the league yeah, never the best.
Kobe was a better defender than Duncan too in his prime. He has the most all defensive first teams for a reason.
Duncan could never score 30 points a night consistently.
People today are drooling all over what Curry is doing on a nightly basis.
Bryant used to drop 55, 50, 52, 53....in 4 CONSECUTIVE GAMES.....while getting TRIPLE TEAMED.....how quickly we forget...please bro. Kobe was impossible, impossible to guard 1 on 1. No one could guard Bryant in his prime. He took the worst starting lineup in NBA history to the playoffs and nearly upset the 2 seed. He scored 62 points after 3 quarters against the team that went on to win the West that year. Did you see the cast he had on his team??? Joke.
Not to mention Duncan has had an amazing team his entire career. Look at who Duncan is playing with. Hall of famers everywhere. Literally. The only good player Kobe had post Shaq was Gasol. And Gasol never even sniffed a playoff win his entire career before he joined Bryant. Not 1 playoff win....
Tim Duncan's numbers...including playoff numbers...are a joke next to Bryant's.
Listen, Duncan is an all time great. Top 10 easily. Best PF ever. To compare Tim Duncan's level of skill and ability to Kobe Bryant is simply absurd.
Kobe Bryant could do so many things better than Duncan, while Duncan can only do a few things better than Bryant. Jordan himself knows Bryant is the 2nd best ever. Even Magic said Bryant is the greatest laker ever.
Just look at them now. You think Kobe Bryant would ever average 10 points a game?????
Duncan is just a role player playing with a bunch of studs around him.
Bryant is 37 and still the best player on his team by far. Bryant just dropped 40 the other night.

#48Actually playing in a smaller market and winning titles much more impressive. The networks and league will always push harder and give those teams in big markets edges see Lakers/Kings series. Also much easier to get big stars to play in L.A. or NY and more $$ to spend than places like Minny, San Antone, Portland etc.Comment -

Goat Milk gets it. You guys trying to make a case against Kobe Bryant do not. At all. This isn't an opinion poll. We're talking about tangible, quantifiable skills. Kobe saw every move that Duncan has and decided to master them, along with all the great moves that every hall of fame offensive player had.
The best part about this though? The one thing that none of you can ever argue, no matter how delusional you are? Kobe Bryant practiced harder and more frequently than anyone else ever. So just know that whoever your favorite player is, he would have been a lot better if he had Kobe's work ethic and dedication.Comment -

There is something to be said about performing in cities like Los Angeles or New York or even Boston. Only a handful of guys possess the calmness under pressure and the mental capacity to do it. We've seen it in every major sport. All stars get picked up in free agency and land with the Yankees, unable to produce. Get traded to Arizona or wherever, numbers jump back up. Dwight Howard is a good example.
Duncan doesn't have the mentality for this. Hell, he couldn't even make a season saving unguarded layup in the finals two years ago and that game was only in Miami. Guy would crumple in a major market.Comment -

#53This is stupid. Gasol hasn't won a meaningful game without Kobe running the show. Not before, not after. Kobe taught him how to win. Besides, this is one of the dumbest arguments in any sport. You cannot win a championship single handedly. It's not a thing.
This is like saying, oh yeah but Michael Jordan didn't win a championship without Scottie Pippen so he's not really that good. This accomplishes nothing except showing off your low iq.Comment -
