    Auerbach Trophy?
How would you feel if the NBA championship trophy was named after Red Auerbach?

Magic Johnson suggested David Stern maybe do that, in honor of Red Auerbach. Charles Barkley agreed.

I think it would be a great idea, with all the championships he won. And the impact he had on the game and players.

I think it's currently named after Larry O'Brien, former NBA commissioner. I think the switch would be appropriate. Nice of Magic Johnson to suggest it.

Red really influenced the game, so I would have no trouble if they changed it.

I care Buddy. I'm a big Spurs fan so I'm inclined to not agree that the NBA blows. But it is tough to cap. I think my best year I hit like 42%. Wish we had better NBA coverage in costa rica.

Traditionally, I have followed the NBA less than the other major league sports so until this week, I didn't know much about Auerbach (other than he coached a bunch of championships). But from what I am hearing he was much more than a guy that was lucky enough to stumble upon Bill Russell.

He built those teams he coached (and coached them without assistants). Then he engineered a whole new era of championship teams as an executive. Probably more importantly, he helped build the actual league right from the start and was an important voice in the social reforms it had to go through to get where it is today.

Naming the trophy after him seems completely appropriate to me.

Hard to come up with anyone else who left his mark on the NBA like Auerbach. This would seem like a no-brainer to me, naming the trophy after him.
