I think they would be more fair than the present systems. Managers vote for managers? announcers vote for announcers??? Probably would be a horrible bias in some cases - Yankees wouldn't vote for a Red Sox, etc. Pretty hard to get to a system that is not agenda motivated.

Managers and coaches voted Rafael Palmeiro a Gold Glove award even though he played 128 games as a DH and 28 at 1b. Players wouldn't be much better.
