I wouldnt say pitching has deteriorated.

In fact i think there are more pitchers throwing 95mph and higher than ever before.

However we are seeing perhaps more injuries to pitchers than we used to.

What has deteriorated is Home Run hitters. This is due to the testing of steroids and the harsh punishments MLB hands out to players who get caught using PED's.
