He made brady throw the ball 50 times. Last 4 QBs to do that went 0-4 in SBs. Forced 2 picks against the best post season quarterback EVER. Incorporated a player we've NEVER HEARD OF to catch HUGE balls in HUGE situations. Got a TD in the last 30 seconds of the first half...you know, the final 2 minutes of the half where pats have beaten teams ALL YEAR.

The answer to the dink and dunk is to give up a threat of deep balls, or to give up the run. He made New England put the game together and they did. He obviously didn't "shut down the Pats." There wasn't a gameplan in the universe that could have done that. But he did EXACTLY what he needed to do to put his team in a position to win. Russ lost that game. Sucks to say because he's such a likeable character but he lost that game...

Did Carroll make Brady throw the ball 50 times, or was the Patriot game plan to come out early and often throwing in the flat, and short flares?

Hmm, seems like from the get go that's what New England wanted to do.

I'd argue it doesn't matter. Seahawks don't have fire power to win a shootout. Facts. No one wins giving up a 150 yard rusher. Nearly facts. The fact that the game was perfectly obtainable w/ 20 seconds left against Tom/bill/the dynasty should be all the evidence you need. Carroll called a beautiful game.

Not that it matters at this point but they got there because of one of the luckiest catches we will ever see. Arguably the luckiest catch this season.

You're falling under a classic misconception that because a back is a 'bruiser' that means he's a good goalline back. There is a LOT more that goes into being a goalline back besides just being 'sturdy' or resilient. This is because the offense has to block 11 men with 9 men. If running for 2-3 yards up the middle was "automatic", nfl teams would do it EVERY play, regardless of yard line.

Lynch is 1 for 5 this season from the 1 yard line. Facts. Lynch is in the bottom 25% of qualified backs for scoring from 1 yard out in the last 5 seasons. Facts. Lynch is more likely to LOSE YARDS from 1 yard out than he is to score a TD. FACTS. Attribute this to whatever you want, but the facts/stats stand firmly alone. Lynch gets stuffed on 2nd, Hawks have 2 downs, <20 seconds, and ZERO timeouts to get in. That means they have to call the next 2 plays together so they can get them off if clock doesn't stop. 2nd down was the best down for a pass. 1st arguably was, which is likely why lynch managed 4 yards on the carry before...because belichick was playing pass (only thing I'm not sure of in this post...more of an assumption so feel free to ignore...I'm a FACTS guy...)

Also wilfork was a HUGE factor all game. Even when he's not making plays, he's making plays by drawing double teams in the trenches. Hell, even the commentators mentioned this once or twice in the game. If they can see it, WE should see it.
Okay get real get a 300 lb linebacker in there snap the ball to him have two running backs behind him and push that fugger over the goal line why the hell not!

Any coach that would throw from the 1 yard line, having the best RB in the NFL on your team, with the Superbowl on the line....that's a coach i don't want to play for. Players on that team have GOT to be questioning the coach this morning. I don't see how these guys get up to play for Pete Carroll anymore. That was an insane decision, i'm starting to think Carroll threw the game only because the decision was so stupid and the Pats corner read the play so well, its like he knew it was coming. The corner got to the spot on the field where the ball was thrown to, before the wide receiver even got there. Looking at the replay, it's very strange how he moved there so fast, without hesitation.

Simply too much risk involved here for a play like that to win the Superbowl. If it is week 6 of the regular season maybe try it. Not now. Not here.

Bevall clearly doesnt look at stats and understand percentages or else he wouldve run Lynch 3X! Hell a 10 year old wouldve known to run Lynch there 3x!

so not only is Lynch one of the worst from the 1 in the league, this tells me that the play was fine...nothing wrong with it and yes, it would have been called a great play if they scored... but you have a grossly overrated passing qb who lost the game for his team, yet somehow, is avoiding the blame for throwing the losing INT... homie, some guys just cant read between the lines

Seattle only had 1 timeout left and 26 secs to go. If the run and get stopped they have to call timeout. That gives them one final play after the run and that's where a bootleg probably comes into play

The best play should be stacking the box with Lynch behind, but with option of CB surprised leak out for pass. This is on top of read-option of Wilson keeping ball and run around corner, there are too many better options. Seattle actually had too much time wanted to burn (so that NE could not make another score), and that added confusion to players, which also contributed to the failure.

Keep hearing that Wilson audibled to a pass play, that the Patriots recognized and jumped the route. Carroll jumped on the grenade for his quarterback.

                                  Makes sense.

IF THEY RUN AND ARE STOPPED , TIMEOUT AT 21 SECS.

YOU VIRTUALLY TAKE AWAY ANY CHANCE OF RUN, IN CASE BALL STAYS IN BOUNDS 16 SECS LEFT, AND THEN NEW ENGLAND LAYS ON THE GUYS , DONT LET THEM UP TO RUN A PLAY or they RUSH getting to line. FALSE START =10 SEC RUNOFF game over

If Beast mode is the obvious play call to get in from the 1...so obvious that EVERY media outlet and EVERY casual game watcher knew, then how obvious you think it was to Belichick. Remember the defense has an extra player on the field during run plays...remember wilfork is one of the best run stoppers of the last decade...remember belichick committed to getting the stop there by not calling the time out (for those who criticize bill's call there remember what happened last time he tried to put his offense on the field to win it instead of his defense...), and therefore seattle was racing against the clock as much as they were against the pats D.

Carroll called a BEAUTIFUL game. After watching the NFC 'ship, that guy could really be the second best coach in the national football league. This is coming from someone who HATES seattle (and more so new england for that matter). The fault is on Russell Wilson and ONLY him; had he thrown the ball to the back shoulder of the slant (as is typical on pick plays in the redzone), he would have won the game. Carroll called a flawless play. The man was by definition...WIDE OPEN.

Lynch - too obvious, and that's even disregarding the fact that he has been SHIT from the 1 yard line all year (could it be...because its so expected!?!? *gasp*)
Fade - Decent call, but seattle has the worst receivers in the NFL versus some of the best corners. Russell sucks and probably more likely to throw a pick on that than on the slant even. Most likely a wasted play.
Bootleg - my initial instinct said that this was the call, but on second thought its probably fairly predictable and the risk/reward sucks because a sack would put the game all but out of reach for seattle (puts them in an intensely predictable situation based on down and distance)

So you gotta be safe but creative. Slant call fits the bill but Russ blew it. He's average as they come. Lynch would have got a touch on 3rd or 4th had Russ not thrown the pick. So don't blame pete.

Also...the corner made a hell of a play.
You are a bit misguided on this one. You know just enough to think you are brilliant, but too ignorant to know the truth.

Although being unpredictable and contrarian is often a good strategy, doing what the opponent doesn't want you to do works most. I guarantee that the patriots did not want another running play. If they could call the plays for sea, they would have picked something like that play.

And you should reevaluate your stance that everyone else is wrong. If you honestly believe you know better than all the former coaches and players (current and retired), you need to look into some therapy. Even most of the players on that team disagree with your assessment.

Yes the corner made a fantastic play, but the sea coaching staff should have never put their team in that position. Horrible coaching and a great play by a player.

Check out the quickness with which Butler breaks on the ball. He literally jumps the slant right after the ball is snapped. This really backs up his assertion that he knew what play was coming based on the formation and film study.

9 facts in my post you quoted. Your argument is backed by "Although being unpredictable and contrarian is often a good strategy, doing what the opponent doesn't want you to do works most. I guarantee that the patriots did not want another running play. If they could call the plays for sea, they would have picked something like that play." 0 facts. Just subjectivity and language indicative of a man with no business talking football.

I don't think I know better than "all former coaches and players." Many coaches and players have supported both angles.

"The seattle coaching staff should have never put their team in that position" lmao. What...you mean the position to win the game against the best postseason team/QB/coach of this century(arguably ever?)? The position where Russ could have throw a back shoulder ball and 100% either scored a TD or lived to play another down?

Corner did make an incredible play though. Least you hit one. Wastin' space fam.

Funny thing is people think the pass was the risky call there. A run was far riskier based on clock situation. All russ has to do is NOT throw a pick and the situation is avoided...100 other things he could have done with the ball.

And what about Lynch? Does he re-sign or will he walk in disgust?

in Pete carolls defense there was only 20 seconds left with 1 time out.

not enough time to run it 3 times.
