Even worse than the timeout at 54 seconds, was the 3rd and 2 play. All you need is a first down to kill the clock and setup the FG. Instead, they throw a bomb, which was almost PI but the corner turned around at the last second.Comment -

He actually did worse there. With Detroit out of timeouts, rather than taking two knees and punting with twelve seconds left, he ran on second down and they were called for holding. Clock stops. Then he throws??? the ball on third down and surprise it's incomplete. Rather than punting with a few seconds left, he punts with close to a minute left. Of course Detroit immediately gets in fg range.
Then! To make it worse, he calls timeout on the first fg attempt, which Prater misses. Of course he drills it next time.
What I'm trying to say is the Falcons should be patient with Mike Smith. He's clearly improving.Comment -
