In Canada, pennies have been phased out and the retail stores and restaurants round up or down depending on the cost of your food, or product. They won't accept pennies anymore. Is it the same in the United States? If something you buy costs .78, the item gets rounded up to .80 and if you buy something for .72, the total gets rounded down to .70.

I have a metal detector, so I always bring a couple pennies to the bank when I make a cash deposit. It annoys them as the penny has been discontinued in Canada but they still have to accept it.
