Frustrated at $100K Bracket challenge on my sportsbook not revealing brackets...
Without naming names of the book, the leaderboard is published and one of my entries is in the top 100 and I know that another 2 are just 1 point behind.

The problem is that you can't view or access the brackets of the contestants, which means that ultimately you have no clue as to how many of their Sweet 16, Great 8, Final 4, or Champions are eliminated.

eg: even though the two wankers at the top of the board nailed 30/32 first round games, if they both have Duke going to the Final Four they're essentially dead in the water regardless.

I asked my book and they said they are not going to reveal people's choices.

Shady because A) it allows them to rig it if they want B) it prevents intelligent people from hedging on the actual games - presumably on their book.

Anybody have thoughts? Anybody in any other big-money contests that the brackets ARE revealed?

What interest would they have in concealing the picks?

It puts the book at an advantage to possibly rig it in their favor.

I guess the hope is just laziness. The nefarious thought would be that they could allow themselves to have dummy accounts which are rigged and thereby avoid paying out significant winnings. Another thought that I alluded to is that if I'm in the top 5 going into the champ game and I have one team and the 3 guys ahead of me have neither team and the one other player has the opposing team, I could easily hedge (using their book) and game the system that way.

I'd assume that the potential for hedging could ultimately cost them as much as the payouts themselves? But then they could just limit the top 5 guys' bets or something for that game. Sucks that this policy basically robs the contest of most of the excitement.

I guess I should have asked it this way.
"What do you think they would say their reason was to conceal the picks?"

I bet you $10,000 damn dollars that it would take at least 10 minutes of misunderstanding and hold times until they finally grasped what I was asking, and then after a final long hold they would come back say "I'm sorry, sir. But this is our policy for this contest. Is there anything else I can help you with today?"

Well it would be impossible under certain circumstances... unfortunately it looks like they are only going to update the leaderboard once per day. I am printing out each leaderboard in hopes of identifying any irregularities that might develop.

You can tell some of the names are legit - in fact I recognize some of them from the NFL survivor contest this past fall. Others like "deeznuts" or "yomamma" are probably legit because I doubt a sportsbook would put THAT as a dummy entry.

And to be honest, I've never NOT been paid or treated fairly by this book - I think they make a killing on these contests by capping the winning so it might be more trouble that it's worth for them to rig it. I'm sure they're banking well over 100% even if they treat it legit. I just think that they're kind of lazy and don't treat the contests with the urgency that they do all other plays.
