The Guinness Book of World Records says Jackson is the highest-grossing actor - ever.
Over the span of his acting career, Jackson has made close to $7.5 billion.
With several projects in the works, he will likely hold on to the title for some time.

According to the Internet Movie Database, Jackson's film credits include Do the Right Thing, Mo' Better Rules, Jungle Fever, Patriot Games, Jurassic Park, Pulp Fiction, Die Hard: With a Vengeance, A Time to Kill, The Long Kiss Goodnight, Rules of Engagement, Shaft, Unbreakable, Kill Bill: Volume II, The Incredibles, Coach Carter, Snakes on a Plane, Captain America: The First Avenger and three Star Wars movies.

You would think it's someone like Denzel, Hands, Cruise or Pitt....but they only take lead roles for the most part. Jackson has played all sorts of roles over his career. He's been the lead, co-lead, supporting.

Box Office Mojo seems to be the leading aggregator of such information, and they arrive at a different conclusion. I assume it's by excluding movies where the actor had an insignificant role, because they have Tom Hanks in the #1 slot with only $4 billion in gross receipts.

Obviously being involved in the Star Wars prequels provides a big boost to that, much like how Johnny Depp's involvement in the Pirates franchise has boosted his all-time gross. He plays in a supporting role in many of his films, but it's awesome to see such a badass at the top of the list.
