...and it kind of pisses me off.

Not that I care but I've never had a new car. (uh, yea, gambling might be an issue. My bookie sure does have a new one though)

Hey WTF, some of just don't spend our money on cars. I picked up my dear mom once in front of the airport and not even joking she asked if the car would make it? I traded that 88 Olds Regency 98 in though, man that was a sweet car.

Anyone else get crapped on cause we don't drive a queer bait 07 Jaguar or BMW?

Have a Subaru, solid car, no complaints whatsoever. Wouldn't mind a Beamer though. A nice M3 would do me nicely. And if we're talking silly talk, a GT3 would be cool to go the shops to get the morning paper and some Milk in.

Well for what it's worth I still make my wife drive the same 89 Ford Escort I bought her when we got married 6 years ago even though we could afford something better. I just have a hard time parting with my $$$ and as long as the car works...well drive it. She gives me grief all the time about wanting a new car.

I do not use my car very much, I like my MTB, buses and trains. Wireless internet is great, and I often bet from a bus or a train. I have not learnt betting from my car or bicycle yet.

I've driven many cars, but once a beamer, always a beamer.

My first car was a trip though. Camaro V8 350. A true rust-mobile. Used to race it down Sunset blvd (between Brentwood and Palisades, where all it takes is a sideward glance). That car was so fast, I got beaten once. By a f*cking Ferrari. Yes, people used to make fun of that Camaro, until they got inside... and became instantly 'religious'.

You very rarely will see a gambler or a drug addict with a nice car and this thread proves it. The posters I have met through the years which is about 50 all had older cars, some a little better than others but you know they had to be broke because of the older models they all were driving. We all had one thing in common and that was gambing. Of course the a small amount of people that have older cars can afford top of the line ones but for the most part when you see a person driving an older car there is some type of financial issue.

I have an 74 van right now and still rides like a lion, yes it is embarrasing but that is what you get when you gamble. I get odd looks when I pull up somewhere and get out, some laugh, ect. If it was not for some dents and the noise of the van it would be a nice ride. If I did not gamble I would have a 2007 Red Caddy with tinted windows and the tires jacked up, that is my dream.

I would expect most guys here to have older cars, I do agree though new cars are a waste of money but then again many would say betting on sports is a waste of money.

This is a great post. Some people are car people some people aren't. I fall into the latter category myself. For me a car is merely a tool...A to B. I don't care how old the hammer in my toolbox is and I don't give a damn about how old my car is either. As long as its safe, economical, reliable, comfortable on long highway trips and not in embarrissingly bad shape I am fine with it.

I think people place way too much status on what type of car they and others drive. I've even heard it come up in job interviews. My employer even has rules about what kind of car I can drive in order to maintain an appearance of success because people like doing business with other people they perceive as successful.

But with car people a lot of it goes back to insecurity about themselves. The new trend is parents buying their high-school aged kids expensive cars...but its more of a reflection on themselves. Its their way of saying "look how far I've made it...everyone in my family drives a beamer"

Gave me a great laugh to start my morning. Actually I do have plans to get my wife something different probably in the spring. I'd like to see that car make it through the winter.

I fall in the "not a car guy" catagory. I have a a Chevy Blazer several years old that I would be perfectly happy driving for the next ten years if it would hold up. Working from home, I don't put that many miles on it, so hopefully will last.

My first car was a '61 Bug, and it wasn't that far from being new when I bought it for $300

I've had three brand new vehicles along the way: a '74 Vega, an '89 Ford Ranger and the '99 F-150 I'm driving today. Have close to 100K on the pickup and will think about a new one when I get closer to 150K on the odometer. Give me a plain Jane pickup without all the power this, power that and I'm happy.

I used to meet my bookie at BurgerKing on the corner of Sample and Powerline in Pompano Beach. I'd be waiting in my 1988 Olds Regency 98 with some paint flaking off and he'd drive up in his brand new pearl white El Dorado. He left the price sticker on the window for a couple of months. I tried to motivate my handicapping by thinking that one week he'd have to give me that caddy.

I have been getting a number of compliments on my car lately. It is not that wildly amazing of a car - a 2006 Impala - but I like it and I have had positive comments from a very tall friend of mine about the leg and head room, and from another guy who was amazed that I bet on sports for a living but said that, judging by the car, I must be successful.

I'm generally not a needy person - and I've never been any kind of gearhead - but I get a bit of a glow when people say nice things about my car.

Neither cars nor women are created equal. Saying a car is just fine simply because it runs is the same as saying any woman will do as long as she breathes. That may work for JJ, but if you've got the goods then let your lady know you care and hook her up with a ride she can get excited about.
