You have to think which option has the highest probability?

1) 4th and half a yard
2) 50 yard field goal at home in perfect conditions with a kicker who is 3/3 on the night

I would say both have roughly equal probability of hitting. So neither option was ideal.

That's why they are NFL coaches and you are not. They were already up by 7, even if they miss worst case scenario would be a tie and OT. If Luck was having a great game and the defense weren't stopping him, then going for it would of made sense.

you act like that's a good thing and something the HC is considering. NO. not after dominating the entire ball game.

especially when you have gashed them with the run all game long. you do not attempt a 52 yard FG and risk giving Luck short field position and chance to tie the game, you don't even want to put the ball back in his hands, PERIOD.

any long term WINNING head coach keeps the ball out of the oppositions hand there, runs the ball, picks up first down and ices the game.

Considering that the average 4th and inches run play is -7 yards, it's back to the same spot!

The Chargers would of kicked the field goal eventually anyways, because the Colts still had two time outs. If they didn't get the 1st down, they would had a chance to go up by 10. Great call by coach McCoy, that's why he get paid the big bucks. Also great game planning to keep luck off the field all day by running, even though the passing game was working.

Field goal is Ok there because a 1st down doesn't run the clock out yet with the two timeouts

One of those weird situations where you can make an argument for field goal, punt, or going for it IMO

Personally, I go for it but it worked out

In my opinion I think it's best to just punt the ball. It will be a touchback so Indy gets the ball on the 20.

Indy didn't move the ball into the red zone for the entire game. They didn't score a a single TD, so it's not likely to happen in the final moments.

By going for it or kicking a FG they risk giving Indy the ball on the 40.
