No other sport does. Champagne showers? Really? Busch league. If I was a skipper, I'd make the fukks put it away and focus on next game. Don't celebrate until you win WS like every other fukkin sport.

      rediculous statement.

winning the division is quite an achievement.

Others being 16 and 82. My guess is before it was only 12 teams making playoffs vs 16 in baskets and nhl. Though football same.

When half the league makes the playoffs it just doesn't mean as much.

because its a great achievement. So few teams make the playoffs that getting in is a big success in itself and getting in by winning your division is worth celebrating.

1/2 the field gets in on NHL and NBA and not worth celebrating to win your division. Also NFL season only 16 games and playoff success is all that matters in the NFL these days.

You know what's even more embarrassing?

When a couple of sub .500 teams are playing each other, and someone hits a walkoff. And then they start celebrating on the field, running around like a bunch of chimpanzees, as if they won something important.

Its an old tradition that has carried on from the days of 2-4 teams winning divisions or the league.

Look at the teams respective budget. Cheap teams getting in is big.

Pirates are the only team that have any reason at all to pop corks.
