A drug dealer in Newark and a sportsbook taking bets from Americans is exactly the same thing and actually more of a federal offense. Anyone that believes that offshore sportsbooks are legal to cater to Americans is highly misinformed.

#2To operate a sportsbook in America - other than where it is deemed legal - it is ILLEGAL. But to run a sportsbook offshore, and you’re not an American citizen, then I don’t believe it’s illegal. How could it be?
As for taking bets over the phone from Americans, well, that’s easy to side step. Just don’t ask the punter’s location when taking a bet. If the caller identifies himself as a US resident, then decline to take the action. As for the internet, no federal court ruling as of yet…has established that online gambling is illegal. If so, show me the ruling…Then show it to the three idiots (Leach,Goodlatte, Kyl) who are spearheading the current bill prohibiting online gaming.Comment -

#3Wire acts can be stretched to cable modems and of course DSL
Secondly funding and getting money back from overseas books can definately be illegal under money laundering laws, tax evasion and offshore banking laws. There are so many banking laws now because of terrorism that the US can find many ways to shut down a book.
Go try an open an offshore bank account now, they want to know everything about you and want tons of legal USA documents because of anti terror banking bills.Comment -

Again, no court ruling [precedent] supports this. No punter has ever been prosecuted for gambling online.
Tax evasion: There is tax evasion when one does not declare income, or in this case, winnings. Declare your winnings and there is no tax evasion.
Money laundering: This would apply to the sportsbooks, not to the bettor. If the sportsbook is legally licensed in the country it does business in, then you should expect it would follow standard international money laundering prevention guidelines If the book doesn’t, then it is a matter for the country in which the book is located to proceed against it.Comment
