Lo Duca faces gambling, infidelity allegations

In a divorce petition filed in late June, Paul Lo Duca's estranged wife accused the Mets' catcher of infidelity. His passion for horses has caused him to wrack up heavy gambling debts, according to a report in the New York Daily News.

Lo Duca brushed off the allegations made by 34-year-old Sonia Lo Duca — a former Playboy model — and spent a carefree day at Saratoga Race Track.
"I talk to my wife every day," Lo Duca reportedly said after he was spotted at the track. "We get along great."

Lo Duca, a four-time All-Star, and his wife were scheduled to discuss their divorce on WFAN Radio in New York Tuesday.

And it appears that divorce isn't the only thing on Lo Duca's mind. Unnamed sources told the Daily News that Lo Duca has gambling debts so large that the Mets know about them.

As the newspaper points out, Major League Baseball's morals clause does not prohibit a player from gambling at casinos or race tracks. But the league gets concerned when one of its players runs up unmanageable gambling debts.

Lo Duca insisted to The News on Monday that he only gambled on horses, never on sports.

He would not discuss his wife's allegations, saying only, "We decided to get a divorce six months ago and I wish it didn't happen, but it happens."

The two were married prior to Lo Duca's first full season in the majors, in which he hit .320 for the Dodgers. The following year, in 2001, she posed for Playboy's Sexy Girl Next Door spread.

Standing outside her Spanish-style mansion in a gated community in San Antonio, Texas, Sonia Lo Duca said on Monday night, "I just want my privacy. I just want what's best for my daughter."

According to the Daily News, the petition filed by Lo Duca's wife specifically asks the court to prevent Lo Duca from incurring any indebtedness, making withdrawals from accounts or entering safe deposit boxes.

The document also seeks to prevent him from "consuming alcohol" within 24 hours before seeing his 21-month-old daughter or having "intimate" overnight guests when the child is present.

While nothing (in the divorce document) targets Lo Duca's gambling; his love for horse racing is no secret.

Lo Duca is thought to have five horses in training — four in California and one in New York.

Once again, another man child Jethro Bodine idiot that people look up to as a jock hero.Let's see,you already should have many million $$$ salted away and the potential to make many more $$$$$.Even when you bomb out and more or less quit you get to keep your ill gotten gain signing bonuses that some little kid with a paper route helped give you with stadium taxes imposed on his ice cream cone he bought.

What incentive is there to risk your freebie millions by gambling. The upside is so little but the downside is you can lose it all.I would rather have a sure 20 million with no risk involved than to have 28 million with gambling winnings added with the chance of going bust.In other words, there is no incentive to gamble. You can already have a Humvee,Cadillac SUV,Winnebago,Rolls Royce,Corvette etc.Why do you need 2 or 3 of each. You already have a 20 foot high definition flat screen t.v.Why do you need 3 of them. You can only eat so many fillet mignons and shrimp in a day and drink so many bottles of fine wine.Your 20 million will cover all the normal indulgencies. You don't need to make more money with the risk of losing it all. There is no incentive to gamble when you are already wealthy.Michael Jordan is the biggest dumb ass in the history of the world for being a foolish gambling risk taker. If you stay clean and have a clean reputation you get easy endorsement money you might not get if you are caught up in scandal.

Here is a good scenario about why you shouldn't gamble when you already won the game. It's the Super Bowl and you are up by 9 points with 55 seconds left to go and you have the ball and the other team has no time outs and you have first down. You start running passing plays. That's the equivelence of the stupidity of gambling when you are already wealthy.

I love how when they go to get a comment from Lo Duca they find him at the race track.

"Well I could wait until he shows up for the game...Screw that, he'll be easier to find at the track since he's always there."

You would have to find a definition of excessive that is not arbitrary which is impossible in my opinion.

Infidelity is braking an implicit or explicit contract of trust.

Gambling is something adults should be able to do with their property.

When you engage to support elements in your life that are dependent upon you and you incur a debt from gambling that your industry and employers declare is excessive, AND you create an irreparable rift with the people who care for you then I don't think the definition of excessive is arbitrary at all. The reason that GA exists is because, as with any addiction, there is something more than just an arbitrary definition of excessive.

Infidelity is simply nothing that anybody (no matter what their moral structure might be) should be proud of irrespective of the context.

Certainly anybody should be allowed to have the free will to do the things they wish with the things they possess but that doesn't mean their actions are precluded from being evaluated as terrible.

So Paul Lo Duca is a guy, screws chicks and gambles. Why is this even a news story. I could understand if it was Mike Piazza that people would question.
