Before Michael Jordan, Wayne Gretzky, Jim Brown etc, there was Slingin' Sammy Baugh.

Here is a good read from the WashingtonPost.com about the "the greatest quarterback who ever lived, college or pro."

TP, sad thing is his passing barely caused a ripple among the posters here. Helluva' football player and a very good guy to boot.

        Willie Bee,

you are certainly correct but of course, life isn't fair.

But hey, it could be worse. It was interesting this year to hear Russian hockey star Sergei Lirianov, who was inducted into the hockey hall of fame, describe his efforts to help poor, eldery Russian hockey players.

He says that some of them played in the 50s and 60s, 70s with tremendous heart and skill but their great accomplishments were not recorded well by the communist society and today they live in squalor with barely enough food to live. So although Sammy Baugh is not given his warrented attention today, it could be worse.

            He liked to swear!

I think he still holds alot of punting records as well. It's hard to believe that Ray Guy doesn't hold every single punting record?I haven't looked at the record book for decades but I remember Ray Guy being outrageously good when I watched football as a kid.Maybe he compromised 2 yards a punt by having a huge hang time?

People that knew and played with Sammy said he had quite an x rated vocabulary sort of in a funny way.He just used vulgar words in all situations.I threw five Fu^)in touchdowns,I hold 7 co$k suckin records.etc.etc.I guess he grew up on a farm.

Maybe Sammy should be in the swearing hall of fame too?hehe!Hey,someone should start a swearing hall of fame by golly.

They have a hall of fame for everything, why not a swearing hall?Players & coaches?

They want to artificially prop up the economy with a stimulus package of constructing brick and mortar white elephant pork barrel projects so why not construct more halls of fame.I live 3 miles from the United States hockey hall of fame and it has never made a profit in it's 40 year history. The only outsiders that drive by it are people from Chicago that go fishing in Canada and they aren't going to delay getting on the lakes by seeing 3rd rate NHL and minor league player displays. They used to have the inductions and a hall of fame game here but now they hold it in Denver. What a joke hall of fame.

So why not have a hall of fame for everything?I heard that John Gruden is the all time vulgarity king.Bobby Knight has to be close behind.Get grants from the government and start a hall of any kind and pay yourself a salary as the administrator of the non profit group.
