    What's a WiseGuy move?
Being new at all of this sports betting, I keep seeing the words "wise guy" move on a lot of different sports pages. Can someone explain what that means?

Once again, I truly enjoy this forum as everyone is willing to help out. I grew up around sports betting with my dad but I never learned all of the ins and outs. I just want to be as informed as possible about things. Also, I'm very excited about the football contest with The Prick!!! I've been doing well lately so he better look out!!!!

A majority of the time, the best professional betting groups tend to bet on the same side of a game. If a betting syndicate (or even a single large player) takes a position on a game with no opposition on the other side, the entire market will move quickly.

Imagine an NFL Sunday morning. Within 30 seconds, a syndicate bets "Dallas -2" for 30k at Pinnacle, 20k at Cris and 20k at Olympic. They all move their line 5 cents. When all 3 move, all the smaller books see this move and follow. If they don't move, they risk getting hit by the same syndicate, or "Steam chasers" on the old number.

A move like that is considered a "wise-guy" move, since it is mainly wise-guys that make limit bets at multiple sites at the same time. As a bookie, you don't want to take these kind of bets - these players win 54%+. You also don't want steam chasers either - they'll win at their 54% clip, even if they didn't originate the play.
