#2ESPN is being very tight-lipped about this. Maybe he got caught with the daughter of one of the network's execs. Either that or he simply pissed off the wrong person at the wrong time.Comment -

Harold Reynolds fired by ESPN, report says
Tuesday, July 25, 2006 9:33 AM
ESPN Television yesterday fired analyst Harold Reynolds from Baseball Tonight, a story on The New York Post's Web site says. The reason was not immediately known.
"We are not going to comment," The Post quotes ESPN vice president Josh Krulewitz.
Reynolds did not return calls to The Post.
Reynolds, 45, had been with ESPN 11 years.
Reynolds played 12 season in the major leagues, breaking in with the Seattle Mariners in 1982 and retiring in '94 with the California Angels. He was an All-Star in 1987 and '88.
In addition to his duties on Baseball Tonight with ESPN, he also covered the College World Series for the network.Comment -

#7What the hell? I havent had the time to watch baseball tonight lately but HR was one of my favorites. Im going to miss hearing his take.
Personaly Steve Phillips gets on my nerves. I think part of this has to do with those god awful fake press conferences that they put on last year...where he pretended to be the gm for a few teams. But mainly after everything he says I think to myself.."this guy failed as a GM so what the hell does he really know?"
So with HR gone and Gammons out this is really a big hole in the show.Comment -

#8This sucks, Im with Dan. He was one of the few I liked on ESPN. With Gammons out, and now this, Baseball tonight may not be worth watching now.
I cant wait to hear the real reason why he got the boot.Comment -

#10(UPDATE:Anyone who is saying sexual harassment either has been given bad third-hand info or is lying. Harold has had a couple of rather heated arguments with the producers at "Baseball Tonight," and some of the suits at ESPN over the program's coverage of Alex Rodriguez. At the last production meeting, when it was made clear they were going to really play up the A-Rod angle during coverage of the Yankees-Texas series, Harold had a colossal meltdown, which led to his dismissal. The sexual harassment allegations are even more laughable when you consider that he is being replaced by Steve Phillips -- a man who has never met a skirt he wouldn't chase and who was caught in one of the more embarrassing front office sexual harassment scandals in MLB history."
True? Not true? This, like the rest of it, just reinforces our point: We don't know. And the longer ESPN pretends like nothing happened, like they're a corner shop with three employees, believing this stuff can possibly remain private, the more talk there will be. Still, this is the lone "it's not sexual harassment email" we've received.)Comment -

#12I am leaning toward the way ESPN has gone over the top with A-Rod having a bad 10 days.
Sunday night both Phillips and Reynolds said A-Rod should be traded. Kruk said both of them were crazy. I thought it was staged all the way. Now we find out it was as if you believe the e-mail that explained it was planned in the production meeting they were gonig to play up the A-Rod slump.
Maybe they told Reynolds to say A-Rod should be traded and he was really pissed off because of it. Totally out of character for Reynolds to have that kind of an opinion.Comment -

#14I thought Reynolds really improved in his time with ESPN. When he started he was painful, but he developed some polish and he did great work with the Little League telecasts and has a genuine understanding of the game. He has become much more eloquent and I don't think it will be difficult for him to work out a deal with Fox. I'll be cheering for him.Comment -

#17ESPN's Harold Reynolds accused of Sexual Harassment!!
Here's the full story guys.
It sounds like a crappy story...
I hope he gets the job back although it doesnt seem likely.
NEW YORK (AP) - Harold Reynolds was fired by ESPN from his job as a baseball analyst after he was accused of sexual harassment, the New York Post reported Wednesday.

The former Gold Glove-winning second baseman, a member of the "Baseball Tonight" team for 11 years, said he didn't do anything to warrant his dismissal and wants his job back.
"It was a total misunderstanding," Reynolds told the Post. "My goal is to sit down and get back. To be honest with you, I gave a woman a hug and I felt like it was misinterpreted."
The newspaper, quoting sources, reported that the woman is an ESPN employee.
On Tuesday, ESPN spokesman Josh Krulewitz said Reynolds, 45, made his last on-air appearance for the network Sunday night. ESPN refused to comment on previous reports that Reynolds was dismissed, or to provide any details regarding his departure.
"All I can say is he is no longer working here," Krulewitz said.
Reynolds, who played 12 major league seasons, joined ESPN in 1996. In addition to his work on "Baseball Tonight," he also covered the College World Series and the Little League World Series.
ESPN already was dealing with the loss of another baseball analyst, Peter Gammons, who has been off the air since he was stricken with a brain aneurysm on June 27.

#20What??? HR is the REASON to watch Baseball Tonight (Gammons is a no-brainer... I hope he gets better, he's an icon).
Kruk is an 'old guard' jackass and I want to beat the crap out of him for thinking he's still a player and holding true to that stupid code ballplayers have.
I hope HR said something good - ESPN really blew it by giving him the boot. I hope to god it isn't for sexual harrassment. I always thought Harold was a class act.
He must've said "you're with me, leather" on air like that anchor for sportscenter that got suspended (the doof with the curly hair and glasses that usually does the late night sportscenter...neil everett I think?)
ESPN just continues to suck.
***EDIT*****
Deadspin is reporting that Harold has admitted to being fire for sexual harrassment.
I take back the class act statement. What a dick. I hope he turns his life around... I'm disappointed.Comment -

#24Hey yall, first time poster here, this forum's been a good source of info for my successful wagering. In response to HR's firing, where I work, members of ESPN's cast and crew frequently come in (Stuart Scott's a cool dude, Bob Ley's a prick and Kenny Mayne really IS that goofy). Just yesterday, one of the producers at ESPN came in and I asked him about Harold, and his response was "Harold was a bad boy"...I said something like "You should know better than to mess with the wrong guy's wife" and he nodded and said "That's for sure.... it's gonna come out eventually anyway"....so for whatever that's worth, it's the inside scoop on Harold Reynolds...it's too bad because he and Kruk worked well with each other giving 2 very different perspectives on the same things.
Thanks again, and I look forward to being a part of this forum in the future....Here's to football season approaching, the cash cow of all cash cowsComment -

#28Looks like Harold Reynolds didn't strike out just yet
BRISTOL, Conn. -- Harold Reynolds plans to sue ESPN over his departure from the network as a baseball analyst last summer.
Reynolds played 12 major league seasons and joined ESPN in 1996.
"I have tried everything possible to handle this situation quietly behind closed doors. After numerous conversations and multiple mediation discussions with ESPN executives, it is clear that ESPN had no intention of solving this problem amicably," Reynolds said in a statement.
"For 11 years, I served ESPN with enthusiasm and dedication. It is unfortunate that ESPN has handled this process in an unprofessional manner. At the end of the day, my integrity, reputation and family are my top priorities, and for those reasons I need to set the record straight and clear my name."
ESPN spokesman Josh Krulewitz said Monday that the network had been made aware that Reynolds either has filed a lawsuit or plans to in coming days.
"The suit is without merit," Krulewitz said. "We stand by our decision and have no further comment now that litigation has begun."Comment -
