They are really a ripoff that pay a fraction of the true odds. It's a known fact that major leaugue sports is totally against them selling parlay cards up there and have an agreement where parlay cards are banned in the states altogether.

Why not legalize it in the states and give true odds on the cards and take the procedes and pay for stadiums that way instead of stealing it from the tax payer.A pro sports team owner would be in the same position as a race track owner that way where you have legalized betting and you get a cut to support the operations.

Once again though it's hard for the government to compete with off shore books because if you win big off shore you don't have to pay income tax.

Then of course parlay cards have better odds of winning-takeout is smaller and if you sold lottery tickets along the parlay cards it would really cut into lottery ''ripoff''ticket sales.

Are you talking about things like SportSelect or Proline?

I played those back when I was in high-school. They were a ripoff indeed but since I was underage, I didn't know much better. I treated it like a part time job one year and actually made about $600 through the school year. But these were extraordinary circumstances with Ottawa joining the NHL and San Jose in their second year of play. I think they maybe won 20 games between them that year so I just bet against them week in week out and combined with some lucky NFL picks, I did ok.

The tax thing isn't an issue because lottery winnings aren't taxed in Canada anyway and those are run by the provincial lottery and are not subject to tax. But they are still a ripoff and cannot compete with off shore operations.

Its ironic that Ontario law restricts gambling to provincially run lottery corporations but then they only give you a sports betting option that virtually ensures you lose money. Essentially another tax.
