Am I getting a dual line?
    hey guys,
i had a question regarding the SBR live odds ticker. I have been using it for a couple days since discovering this website. it seems to update pretty regularly, especially with Pinnacle. HOwever, it keeps saying lines that Bodog has that i would like to bet but when I actually go there, the lines are completely different. I go back to SBR 20 minutes later and it still says that Bodog is showing say, -110. When I go back to bodog again, it will show something different such as -115 or -120. I tried to log out of bodog and just look at the lines before logging in but it still is different than SBR. First question I guess would be how often does the SBR live odds ticker update for most places and if it does update continuously, am I gettting a dual line? I have been betting at Bodog a lot in the last couple of weeks if that helps clarify anything.

If you are stupid, you get the lines shown on SBR.

they do indeed deal dual lines.

Something that isn't obvious to many customers is the way some online casinos set the odds. Calvin Ayre, founder of Bodog.com, one of the world's biggest sports books, says that computers at his Costa Rican site identify each bettor and then personalize the odds. Such player profiling cannot occur in the legal sports books in Las Vegas because those casinos publish their lines in newspapers. Ayre says the individual odds are nothing more than a high-tech version of the traditional bookie's practice of taking advantage of, say, a Philadelphian's emotional tendency to bet on the Eagles. "They have the choice to take our offer or the other side," or to go to another site, Ayre says.

I just made my first cashout today actually. I have been playing with them for about 3 weeks now and had lost about 3,000 over the last couple of weeks. HOwever, I went on a nice run over the last week and just cashed out about 5,000 in profit with about 300 of that being bonus money.

I am really impressed how well the majority of these books run their businesses and how good oddsmakers are. To offer dual lines is incredibly intelligent and it would be interesting to find out how much they can make off the average individual. For instance, the fella who ALWAYS bets on the favorites, especially in baseball. Instead of putting the Red Sox ant -265 tonight they move to -295, if the person is betting to win $100 the book can make an extra $30 or 30%.

Then unrelated, I am continually amazed at how good oddsmakers are. For instance the tracking of blindly betting underdogs shows that you would be making twelve units. That is a pretty good margin of error when taking into account the total # of units risked. I would guess we are close to 700 games meaning under 2%. Yes we all find lines we like and a lot of people can make money at gambling, but the majority lose because they don't make many mistakes.

Not really anything of consequence here, but I am impressed.
