I have a genius thought about how to be undefeated as a hockey team

The hockey net is so small. There are guys out there who are 7 feet tall and weigh 800 pounds. Just roll one of those guys out in front of the net and it blocks the entire net right? Why don't teams do this?

Please somebody tell me where I am wrong here. The goal is 6 feet wide by 4 feet high. You could lay the guy on his side. He would easily cover the 6 feet wide and more than easily cover the 4 feet tall. What am I missing here?

Fat guy would probably tilt over and not be able to get up...or get too tired standing...plus there's a certain size limit on pads...and he'd die with the helmet on...

I have thought about this for years but pad size limitations make this not possible.

He makes a save on the right it deflects and goes left and he would be way to slow to recover. Would get killed if you arent athletic.

Ralphie the whole point here is to get a big enough guy that he covers the net and doesn't have to move. Have you read this thread?

a quick rule change would negate this strategy

This made me laugh out loud:

We got Trevor situated in front of the net, though it took a good five minutes of work, including tying his torso to the crossbar . . . probably a disturbing sight, given that very few people were clued into the fact that this was not an actual 1,000-pound man. Trevor's goalie crouch was itself unnerving: butt on the ice and legs splayed out in front of him—really the only way someone that large could be situated. There were certainly places to score around his head and shoulders, but he filled most of the net and made it difficult to see the goal line.
Imagine being in the rink and seeing a morbidly obese person take the ice THEN have their torso tied to the goal to keep them in position. I just don't think that anyone could get big enough to completely fill a hockey goal. If they were to be that big, there isn't a chance they'd be able to move around, at least not enough to stop pucks coming from odd angles.

What a funny idea/story though. Thanks for the laugh.

NHL players can put a puck through any tight spot. much better to be small and have great skill as a goalie than to be super huge.

I actually saw this tested on some sort of sports science show, with a sumo wrestler I believe. it was an epic fail by the fat goalies

you also have to remember that a goalie has alot more responsibilites than just sitting in the crease, he has to be able to skate and handle the puck a little bit...

that would be a huge detriment to a team, to have a totally fat immobile goalie. hell just getting him off the ice with a min to go for the extra attacker when down 3-2 or after a penalty call would be bad news

Do you know how much a 120 mph shap shot hurts? For a sumo wrestler that is going to hurt like get shot.

have you ever ice skated before? Its a skill in and of itself, also, I think you vastly underrated just how big 6' by 4' is.

You can't find someone big enough to cover the whole net, Asking why they 'just dont get someone big enough to cover the whole net' is akin to asking why NBA teams dont just get 7' 6" guys to dunk every time.

In fact NHL has changed vastly because they stopped putting the big slow guys in net and changes to highly athletic goalies.

how about put 7 footers on d line when other teams kick field goals. I remember some 6 8 guys like leon lett with no verticle would block kicks all the time. 7 foot nba guys would block all kinds of kicks

A fat person would not be able to get into a pair of skates and stand on the ice for a full 60 minutes. And once traffic gets in his crease and he falls over, he won't bounce back up like a normal goalie.

Plus being a goalie takes skill and a talented goalie should never be replaced by a fat bastard.

Look at Garth Snow from back int he day, over sized pads made him look like a fat bastard, and the dude still couldn't stop a beach ball.

You'd have to make sure there's a box of donuts on top of the net next the gatorade bottle

best idea ever. replace the most agile player on the ice with a guy who would waste the entire teams energy trying to get him to the net. you, sir, are a genius.

In that video the guy could not move and still had BIG holes to score in. . . .Shooting from bad angles would almost benifit a team in this case. I don't think it would work and like said before a quick rule change would fix it
