That line in the article was kind of poorly written in that it implies he is THE owner as opposed to one of many owners.

          Updated article:

The Las Vegas Review-Journal is Nevada's most trusted source for local news, Las Vegas sports, business news, gaming news, entertainment news and more.

"Seven homes in Southern Nevada were searched Wednesday and numerous wagering accounts were frozen, the control board said in a statement.

Markling said "multiple casinos" were involved in the Nevada investigation. He said safe deposit boxes at several casinos were searched and $2.8 million in cash and chips were seized or secured. Authorities also served dozens of search warrants in New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and California. All told, $7.6 million in cash was seized."

Laundering gambling profits is only necessary when gambling is illegal. By legalizing gambling, the government would be removing the incentive for doing the very activity that they are citing as a reason to keep gambling illegal in the first place.

Plus, I highly doubt that they can link any of these guys like Colbert to any involvement in actual "insidious criminal enterprises." It's a hyperbolic generalization used to make tax payers feel better about using their money to prosecute victimless crimes that the general public probably isn't very bothered about.

If we really want to get rid of gambling profits being diverted towards funding insidious enterprises, why not take a look at government lotteries?
                  Chimmer,

Maybe you should take a look a some of these fukkers rap sheets before you think this is not connected to anything insidious. Some have direct ties to the Five Families of New York.

Shit they even got John Tognino again. He had direct ties to Billy Walters for years.

A lot of direct links from Vegas to offshore in this one.

Pinnacle is the most notable of those and is known for catering to big professional bettors. Stanley Tomchin and George Molsbarger of California, and Brandt England of Las Vegas were named in the indictment as owners of Pinnacle Sports.

They won't but a lot of people are about to get screwed over. Let the snitching begin. Also likely cost Cantor the concessions for a big gaming company.

Does not really rhyme with the charges laid. Especially the money laundering charges. Those would be laid specifically to the individual who handled or authorized the transactions.

He is charged with first, third and fourth degree money laundering.

It would make sense that he as manager of a sportsbook approved wagers in excess of $10,000-500,000 that were tied to the street vendors named in the indictments.

The third and fourth degree money laundering charges are laid when transaction exceeds 10,000. The first degrees belies that the transaction was over 500,000 and was made with the intent to conceal the source or nature of a transaction.

It would appear that both Pinnacle and Vegas knowingly were being used by these vendors to lay off their take.

If true it would be hard to blame a transaction of that magnitude on an employee. How could Cantor (or it's internal auditors) not know this or question it.

Interesting post from Haralabos Voulgaris - poster "coltranedog" on the poker forum involving the number 2 (I know we're not supposed to promote other forums on here):
I have no info on the arrests etc, but I will say that when I was betting Cantor, they'd often deny my bets and then the lines at pinnacle and a few other books would move instantaneously.

I was betting through their tablet and it was really frustrating, the little wheel on the tablet would spin, then the lines at books offshore would move and Cantor would refuse the bet.

Someone at Cantor was either betting these other books or giving info to others to go out and bet the games. I guess its more likely that Colbert was the guy doing that.

That makes the most sense on what happened. Too bad Cantor's lines aren't on any line service. I'm sure they adjusted even without the bet getting in.

billysink downing Queens DA kool-aid by the gallon

cash grab on their part and they try to legitimize it by claiming ties to crime families. there is no such tie.

as for your comments I've seen about the law being clear, it could not be further from clear.
Charges on promoting gambling? Class D felony unless you're surrounded by a bunch of sand.

These arrests, the last 5 sweeps before and the next 50 fukkin 2 will have little more than an instant impact on the streets. The fukks who got arrested have been down this road so many fukkin times they just pay out and move to another "occupation" for the time being. Most of the fukks who got busted here have been at this for 25-50 damn years and will be at it until they die. This shit will have little to no impact to those who are not betting through a third party agent. The applecart was upset at street level and still is. There is no liquidity at street at this time. Oh boy.. internet tough guy act.. scary scary

In the SBR John thread you say over and over that this is an open and shut case for the prosecution. So you think the arrests are warranted in the sense that they arrested people who will be prosecuted successfully. But your personal opinion is that they are illegitimate? Now I don't even know where you stand.

Now for your comment, "Anyone shocked at how closely their gambling money is tied to organized crime?"; as far as I know there has yet to be a shred of evidence supplied that indicates the agents had any connection whatsoever to organized crime.

There are two issues here. Enforcement of the law as it is, or enforcement of what the law ought to be. The arrests are consistent with the law as it is, but the law as we know it is vague and full of countless contradictions... which everybody knows and which is why the law is rarely enforced, like many other dumb laws.

There will be some convictions here. A lot of these charges are class misdemeanors. Some are more serious. Some at the top will be removed from the game for a "vacation". I have no idea what will transpire with the Pinny guys or the Cantor fella. That is a league I have never played in.

As far as you know ain't that far pal in relation to agents. Not far at all. I can see you know very little about the game at street level.

The DOJ will process these guys like a bag of fukkin turnips. Another fukkin day at the office.

You know who they are gonna bust their asses to convict. The software folk. I have it on real good authority that is why they were arrested and charged outside of the blanket indictment. They easily could have been.

Mathy, I am certainly no internet tough guy pal. I am just an old street dog who has been down a road or two you may not have traveled. It is a huge industry pal and one you so very obviously know nothing about. You think the whole fukkin world is a shut in sitting in front of a computer all damn day, scalping lines for a few bucks?

Time well tell how "connected" the arrested agents were to organized crime. Maybe they took bets from those in organized crime, but there is no evidence that the betting proceeds were being funneled to organized crime. That is just a ploy to justify the detainment of those who committed a victimless crime and to convince the public that the entire hierarchy of the betting world leads to a bunch of fat Italians in NYC.

You have about as much credibility with that statement as you have earned in this discussion. I will leave your ever genius mathematical mind to quantify that.

Arrests are not about guilt, but about intimidation and squashing out competition. Check out the story of Kim Dotcom and Mega Upload for a good recent example. The guy lives in New Zealand, deals with the same copyright stuff, in the same way or better, as Youtube, but is arrested as the world's number one pirate, and his billion dollar business taken offline. Reason? He wasn't part of 'the club'. This government is corrupt to the core on both sides of the aisle. Bottomline is that the government doesn't own the internet, and the government can't tell us where to spend our money. Only a totalitarian regime would try to convince us that it can take these basic freedoms from us, and use law enforcement to intimidate us into compliance with its corrupt ways. It will only get worse until the people finally decide that enough is enough. If someone spends money offshore that's money laundering? lol We can't decide for ourselves if we should gamble or not? You can't spend your money offshore, but if you want to spill your blood in some godforsaken desert for the good of your country big oil, by all means, go right ahead. Once you come back from your heroic duty, be ready to be tagged right away as prime suspect for terrorist (not kidding). Criminals are in charge. But hey, Monday Night Football takes away the pain. Right?
