BetUS and WagerWeb prior to either using those names. BetEd a few years before they closed. Have been burned by far more poker sites than sport books. Pokes, Royal Card Club, Pitbull Poker, Wingows and am probably not thinking of them all.

I highly suspect this is true. The research + money probably not staying in your account long, has you at not much risk of being ripped off. The other part though goes both ways. Guys getting ripped off are net-depositors that don't know any better and players fully aware. The latter can get ripped off several times and still come out ahead, it's part of overall strategy and they fully understand the risks.

If you know what you're doing, you don't last long at the risky shops anyway. Sign up early and get the boot before the inevitable cash-flow crunch, I say.

BetEd was a peculiar scenario as I'd avoided them for many years based on reports of outright theft, then had my opinion swayed late in the game by Peep at OGD who seemed to have an understanding with their management. Sadly before even two months had passed they got caught up in the Blue Monday payment processor seizures and were history. Even so, they don't stand out in my mind as a "rip off" since my first and only withdrawal was greater than my remaining balance.
