Let's just take a shortcut to the truth. I told you at the beginning of this football season I had completed a five-year study of what makes college and National Football League teams win or lose-and that this study would revolutionize the way I do things and would give me a 90% chance to win every big game (50 units and up) that I released.
Well, the facts are I was untruthful. It has not been 90%, but 100% winners. When previously winless Northern Illinois (-5 ½) won my fifth straight College Blowout Game of the Month last Saturday with a crushing 37-0 win at Eastern Michigan, and the panthers beat he Falcons Sunday, I moved my big game record for the season to 10-0-1.
....
The study blew away some of the accepted elements of handicapping, including the necessity to establish a running game in order to make an offense work at a maximum level. The study said, in the NFL in particular, the need for a great running game was completely out of date and somewhat disconnected from the game as it is played in 2008.
In the NFL today, the study said winning is tied directly to a team's passing game and its ability to stop its opponent's passing game.
The study said the college game was all about just one thing-talent. If you have talent, you will win and if you don't you will lose, but it was not quite as simple as that. The study revealed five specific ways to determine the talent and thus the performance level of any college football team.
