Aaron Rodgers potential seperated shoulder, Favre leads league in QB rating
Packers fans all around the world knew this day was coming. Despite the valiant efforts by GM Ted Thompson, and head coach Mike McCarthy; we all knew Rodgers is made of glass. Which is why it was so mind-boggling that after coming off a pro bowl year the Packers refused to accept their legendary gunslinger Brett Favre back.

What's Brett doing now? Only leading the league in QB rating, and coming off a six TD game. For Packers fans sakes, let's hope that Rodger's shoulder is just dinged up and not actually separated...

    Green Bay Gazette

    Injury update: Rodgers' shoulder separated?
The initial diagnosis of Aaron Rodgers' injury is a bruised throwing shoulder, coach Mike McCarthy said after today's game.

The Packers' starting quarterback no doubt will be examined further upon the team's return to Green Bay this evening. UPDATE: At various points in his postgame press conference, Rodgers said he thought the shoulder might be separated or dislocated, but wasn't sure. Again, tests will occur tonight or Monday morning.

Rodgers missed one series in the second half, a three-and-out after which Tampa Bay drove for the winning field goal, then returned briefly before leaving for good. He finished 14-for-27 for 165 yards with two touchdowns and three interceptions.

On why Rodgers was held out for that one series: "I think they were still checking him out. It was clearly a medical decision to hold him that one series, then he was ok to go back in. then they felt it wasn’t ok for him to go back after the interception."

      Rodgers is good.

But, the Packers are not a very good team.

What has Favre done this season to make the Packers think they made a wrong decision? They made the right one and they aren't looking back.

Leading the league in QB rating, coming off a career high six touchdown game, AND being able to play through injuries and be dependable as far as never missing a start..

What good is Rodgers when he's sidelined? He's always been injury prone, just one of those players.

Wow looking at the Jets remaining schedule....some teams are: Cin, Oak, Stl, Mia again, Sf....maybe 9-7 gets them in this year for a wildcard?

More like 10-6 or 11-5. Might be biased but can't hold losing to two great teams against them. Favre in sync now and the other talent on the team we saw a glimpse of maybe how much improved they really are.

You guys are funny. One week the guy plays bad and everyone bashes him. The next game he plays a mediocre team that can't get out of its own way, and now people are asking if the Packers are jealous? Come on, this is Brett Favre and the NY Jets. I love Favre, but he ain't taking this team anywhere. Let's keep things realistic.

The Pack did what they had to do; and they are better off with Rodgers.

What good is a 39 year old quarterback? You have to move on sometime. At least the Packers have direction, they have a plan, the Jets have neither.

That actually sums it up very well. We all love Favre; it's impossible not to. But he will not be around to see the Jets new stadium. What is he possibly going to accomplish this year? Beside possibly getting himself injured?

They're maybe better off with a healthy Aaron Rodgers, but Aaron Rodgers is about as durable as a lawn chair with John Goodman sitting in it.

That's what many people foresaw as the potential problem with him, and Brett Favre can still play and could have taken the Packers back to the NFC Championship game. Rodgers can't even make 4 starts without getting sidelined, Favre is at over 270 without skipping a beat.

I'm a Packers fan and I'm still fine with the "decision". I'm absolutely rooting for Brett too. I hope he throws 6 more TDs next week. The more the Jets can win, the higher that draft pick becomes.

The Packers had to make this kind of move eventually anyway. The fact that Favre couldn't make up his mind about "retirement" forced the Packers to do what they did. If Favre never announced his retirement and showed up on time to camp, we wouldn't be having this discussion. But Brett did what he did and forced the hand of the Packer execs. It all went as well as it could. It's over and it's been covered to death.

Piling on criticism after the fact is fairly immature. If you were one of the ones that was predicting a Rodgers injury that would eventually derail the Packers season back in training camp, then kudos on that prediction if it happens to come true. But piling on criticism after the fact is narrow minded and fruitless, especially in a forum where we are trying to predict "future" trends rather than crow about the past. Should we now say that Tom Brady is injury-prone? Half the QBs in the league are nicked up. We need to see a much larger body of work before we can pass judgement on Rodgers' career.

                                  Source

Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers intends to play against Atlanta on Sunday despite a sprained shoulder that his coaches will be watching closely in practice.

Packers coach Mike McCarthy and his assistants will spend this week monitoring Rodgers' progress and preparing rookie backup Matt Flynn to start, just in case.

"Speaking with Aaron this morning, he has every intention on playing," McCarthy said Monday in Green Bay. "But I think Wednesday's practice will be a pretty good indicator for us. It's just something we'll have to continue to rehab and see where we are on Wednesday."

Rodgers was injured on a scramble in the third quarter of Sunday's 30-21 loss at Tampa Bay. He stayed in the game and threw a touchdown pass to Greg Jennings, but sat out part of the fourth quarter. Rodgers said after the game he might have separated his shoulder.

It's good that there was no structural damage, however he's simply got to stop diving and start sliding after running, or just throw the ball away.

                                    I agree.

I see a lot of younger NFL QBs making the same mistakes, as well as some older ones. It's gotta be tough from a coaching perspective, because you want to keep players healthy yet not restrict them too much from their natural flow and style of play. It's a brutal game, especially at the QB position despite constant rule changes intended to protect the QB. Defenses keep devising ways to get there and put the hurt on.

I expect growing pains from Rodgers as this season progresses. Seeing how a player reacts and deals with an injury is a rite of passage for any successful NFL player. I'm confident he'll continue his progress in a mature manner as he has demonstrated thus far. So far Rodgers has seemed to handle everything on an even keel, from his early success to his more recent setbacks. NFL life is a roller coaster, which he has seen from the backseat behind Favre. Now it's his time to demonstrate leadership and play with pain, limitations or whatever other challenges he will certainly face going forward this year.

                                          Rodgers limited in practice

Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers is still nursing a sprained right shoulder and performed only a few handoffs before leaving practice Wednesday.

Rookie backups Matt Flynn and Brian Brohm got most of the work, while Rodgers took several snaps early on. Rodgers then left the Packers' indoor practice facility and didn't return during the portion of practice open to the media.

Rodgers was hurt at Tampa Bay on Sunday, but coach Mike McCarthy said Monday that Rodgers intends to play this week. If Rodgers can't go, Flynn is expected to start Sunday's game against the Atlanta Falcons.
Sounds like he won't even make the start.
