This year there are going to be a reported 34 post season bowls with Div 1-A teams. (Which the NCAA now wants us to call "the bowl championship division," or some such nonsense.)
34 games means 68 teams. There are 119 teams in Div 1-A (which is what I'll call it forever). In other words, about 56% of the 1-A teams will be playing during the Christmas and New Years celebrations.
This is the reason the NCAA went to 12 regular season games. So that more teams would hit 6 wins, and be bowl eligible.
Now, with 34 games, they may be lowering the threshhold to winning 5 games soon.
Most of these bowls will only be watched by fans of the teams (students and alumni) and by gamblers with a stake in the outcome.
But, this satisfies those anonymous "college presidents" who shed such croc tears for their precious "student athletes."
That is, if some corporation wants to sponsor a meaningless postseason contest between medicre teams those college presidents are going to drop their drawers and salute the greenbacks.
What a ton of manure.
