    Can Anyone Explain This
I saw three different odds on two teams today (San Diego and Baltimore) and wondered why the books listed below would use these and how we could benefit, if at all.

The books were Bookmaker, DSI, and 5 DIMES. These were the lines:

    San Diego: -14 -14(-15) -16(+10)

    Baltimore: -5 -6(-05) -7(+20)

(I know what they mean, but why the 2-point difference on the one from 5 Dimes).

    Thanks.

You must not know what it means then, pretty self explanatory.

Sorry, Bernie, maybe I didn't phrase it properly. What I meant was the motive for doing it. Isn't 5 Dimes worried about getting "middled" when the player can lay -14 at Bookmaker and take +16 at 5 Dimes, or, conversely, bet Baltimore -5 at Bookmaker and take the dog +7 at 5 Dimes. I mean if
5 Dimes wanted to solicit action on the dog, why not make San Diego -14½, or make the dog in the Baltimore game +5½ or even +6. Why go all the way up to the key number of 7. I seriously don't know why, and that is why I am asking. I'd appreciate your help. If you're offended by the question or suspicious of the answer or can't really explain why, there are no hard feelings. I'm hoping you can help. Thanks.

The + is because youre giving away points. 5 Dimes still had the same lines as those others in their drop down menu. Next Sunday go to 5 Dimes about an hour before kickoff and click on the spread, they will have about 12 different choices, each paying differently. So the line wasnt any different at 5Dimes, there was just an option to give points so that is where the higher number comes from and the + sign.

Okay, thanks. You see, I could not get in 5 Dimes, Bernie, and I was reading it off the Don Best screen, which did not give me the choices that you can see in the drop downs from 5 Dimes. Another poster (LT) explained the math to me that +7(-40) is only a few pennies different than Baltimore -5. Likewise, taking +16(-30) is only pennies different than laying -14 at Bookmaker. This is what I didn't grasp. This is probably rudimentary for you guys, but for me it wasn't. I was concentrating on the difference in numbers and not the difference in their prices. Your kind reply, along with LT's, clarified what I did not grasp. Thanks for puttin' up with me.
