    Phillip Rivers
    One man's opionion..........

The story we've heard often here in North Alabama is that when Phil's dad, Steve Rivers, coached high school football, Philip would come to practice after school to help and (mostly) play. Although he was only 8 or 9, he enjoyed picking up the high school sized football and throwing it around with his dad's players. The best way he could manage throwing a ball that was a little too large for a little boy was to balance it in his hand and half-heave and half-throw it. His throwing motion hasn't changed much as he starred at Athens High, Alabama, North Carolina State and now the San Diego Chargers. At each level, we heard all about how that odd way of throwing would keep him from having much success. All he did at every level was win games and break records. Now, Rivers is threatening to catch Dan Marino's all-time season yardage mark of 5,084 yards set in 1984. Opposing coaches are raving about Rivers, and finally, we aren't hearing as much about his unusual way of throwing the ball. In fact, his throwing motion seems to have gained acceptance. Get a load of this line from a recent New York Times story:"....River's flawless delivery is a primary reason he is threatening to topple a single season record..." Flawless? My, how times have changed.

Rivers is 19-0 in regular season starts after December 1. Not bad for an NFL QB who was recruited as a tightend by Auburn.

He has a younger brother who is a high school senior, who throws the same way.

Rivers brother played at Athens High School (same as Philip) and has committed to LSU. Alabama nor Auburn recruited him. He's a 6-5 beanpole. Needs to gain alot of weight before he's ready for college ball.

I love phillip rivers. It was hilarious when him and Cutler had spats in their AFC west games. So funny.

I always hated how the "experts" sya there is a right way and wrong way t throw a football. If it goes where you want it to, who cares. Tell that to Marino, Kosar, and Vince Young who all have weird throwing motions and all have had success.

Rivers did not do well in Fantasy Football points.
Remember that the Chargers won with defense and not with offense against the Colts.

I agree that Rivers should be one of the top candidates for MVP if he continues with the season that he has been having. Last week he didn't have quite the game like he has been having, but it still wasn't bad.

That tends to happen in lopsided blowout victories. Besides, with all those Peyton pick-6's Rivers was hardly on the field!

Rivers' biggest downside is that the team is becoming successful enough not to have to depend on big numbers from him anymore.
