Highest scoring NFL weekend in over 20 years
this weekend's games' combined scores/ totals averaged 52.6 points a game (if you took each actual total and added them up to 737 and then divided by 14 games) this apparently is the highest weekend average in over 20 years.

this coming right after the NFL legislates stricter penalties for improper tackling technique. helmet to helmet, defenseless receivers, etc.

the threat of higher fines and suspensions maybe made it open season for offensive players. or maybe it was just a coincidence that this comes right after the nfl sends out video tapes to all the teams telling them how they have to be careful tackling.

maybe overs make sense for a while.

    Good spot Glitch............

The totals should rise as well. Scoring is just what the NFL knows the public looks for and this was probably a factor in changing/adding these rules. My early morning/late night thoughts. Trends in the NFL were strong plays years back... If Pittsburgh beats New Orleans this week their 2nd straight road game play the Bengals on the Money Line when Pittsburgh will be playing their 3rd straight on the road! Very good % play to go against any team playing their 3rd game in 3 weeks on the road and winning all!

Imagine pointspread will be -3 or lower and the trap will be set........

The NFL is trying to bend the rules to make it more like the NBA, all about fast breaks and dunks.

Look at every other rule change since the NFL-AFL merger, it's favored the passing game. Now they're undermining the defense.

I guess Arena football was proving to be too much of a threat to the NFL, if you can't beat 'em then join 'em.

Interesting, that new NFL rule did effect the game.

Could explain why the Ravens almost lost to the Bills.

check the offensive yardage totals, are those the highest? you cannot count all the scoring because you have incomprehensible turnovers and bonehead plays. add up the yardage totals and not the 27 int's returned for touchdowns.

nobodys saying that this small sample-size definitively proves the policy change's effect on scoring or offense. just pointing out the 100 percent correlation thus far. every weekend since the change (1) has yielded wild spikes in scoring.

and yards wouldnt prove anything either. perhaps there were just more touchdowns and more broken tackles because instead of instinctively wrecking someone, they have to calculate how to not get demonized on sportscenter later for using their pads or helmet as a weapon. or even worse- fined heavily and suspended.

maybe more quarterbacks took more chances throwing stupid balls because its now unofficially a rule that a WR has to have possession and essentially make eye contact with the prospective tackler before it becomes a legal hit. the moment at which they are paying attention to the defender and no longer defenseless before they have to stop being careful about their takedown technique.

            a link about defenseless receivers:

what im saying is that maybe the interceptions happen because QBs are subconsciously or consciously feeling like the WRs have more right to the thrown ball now. maybe offensive players let them score TDs because they dont wanna be the offensive hypocrite dirty tackler that shows how hard it is to change the way you tackle after doing it that way for 17 years.

there are a lot of factors and variables and its not as simple as a this change leads to this.
just like in stocks and commodities- speculation and the human aspect of things is a very real and important factor.

This is why the NFL is a bush league.

These fvkkers change the fvkking rules every year!

Results in chaos in prediction, no wonder the sharps can't get a handle on it.
