Boyz,
Have decided to play 5 games per week this year in the pros, divided wherever I see fit between sides and totals. Here goes....
NEW ORLEANS -5 over MINNESOTA
Everyone knows that the Vikings had that playoff game in hand against these Saints last year....before blowing it. One could build a case that the Vikes have the revenge motive here and should be the play. I don't see it that way. I see 2 teams going in opposite directions. The Saints will be in a rollicking good mood in this one as they hoist their championship banner. The Super Bowl champs have won their opening game of the following season for the past 10 years. Make it 11. The Vikes are in disarray. My money goes on the Saints and Father Time. I see the diva Favre laying a good-sized egg in this one and Brees and co. taking it rather easily.
PITTSBURGH +2 against ATLANTA
Maybe I under-estimate Big Ben but I cannot fathom why the Falcons are favored on the road in Pittsburgh. Methinks that Matt Ryan and the Falcons are the trendy pick as a team to reckon with. Not buying it as yet. The Steelers are a veteran bunch and you can count on their defense to find a way to win this one.
PATRIOTS/CINCINNATI - OVER 45
Pats fans live by the credo "In Bill we trust". You have to wonder what he was thinking though last year when he traded the centerpiece of his defense, Richard Seymour, to Oakland. Their defense has never been the same. This week they start a remarkably young (and seemingly unimpressive) defensive squad, including 2 corners with a total of 5 starts. They might have their work cut out for them against the likes of Ochocinco, Owens, Gresham and Shipley. Cincy will put up some points. New England should be able to counter against Cincy's suspect secondary. The return of Welker and the addition of 2 stud rookie tight ends gives Brady the best set of receivers he's seen in years. These two teams trade points and the last team to score wins.
JACKSONVILLE -3 against DENVER
The Broncos got off to that incredible start last season, but it's not likely to happen again. They are very weak against the run, and that was before they lost their best player, Dumervil. This doesn't bode well against a Jaguars team that features stud RB, Maurice Jones-Drew. MJD will make all his Fantasy owners happy in this one.
SAN FRANCISCO -3 at SEATTLE
Coach Singletary has systematically put together an impressive squad in the Bay Area. They won't blow the opportunity to notch a road 'W' against these Seajokes. Pete Carrol's boys won't get it done with enthusiasm alone. They need talent....and it ain't there. Never a good sign when your O-Line Coach resigns a week before the season starts. Gore and company dominate here.
Let's hope for a good start out of the gate,
Harry
