Thursday's NFL Front Page Picks (Sep 6)
NO Saints (+6) at Indianapolis Colts

    Game Time: 09/06/2007 08:30 PM -
    By: Mike Rose | who2beton.com

The Saints and Colts kick off the NFL regular season tonight in Indianapolis. Nab the points and New Orleans on the road as Sean Payton's looks to improve on a strong 2006 season.

The 2007 NFL season kicks off in style as the heralded New Orleans Saints come a' marching into Indianapolis to take on Peyton Manning and the defending Super Bowl champs. N’awlins had themselves an unbelievable campaign a season ago when they notched seven more victories than in ’05 to 10-6 straight up. They defeated the Eagles in the postseason, but eventually fell to the Chicago Bears at Soldier Field in the NFC Championship game.

They come into this season with very high hopes as they return a bulk of last year’s team, also making a number of solid free agent moves in the offseason and improving their depth in the draft. QB Drew Brees is back at the helm to lead head coach Sean Payton’s imaginative offensive attack anchored by WR Marques Colston and running backs Deuce McAllister and Reggie Bush. This unit averaged close to 26 PPG in its infancy, and an even more potent attack looks to be on the horizon with a years worth of experience under this units’ belts.

The Saints were spectacular away from the Superdome last year (6-2 SU & 7-1 ATS), and I expect more of the same out of this bunch in ’07. They didn’t show much throughout the entire preseason offensively, but I have already deemed Payton as someone who could care less about winning in the exhibition month. All gloves are off though tonight as they look to hand the Colts a loss right out of the gates, and I believe they can get the job done if indeed their offense wakes from the doldrums of the preseason.

Remember, the Colts played out of their minds on the defensive side of the ball in last years postseason. This is still an average unit that plays well when all their parts are on the same page. New Orleans has the offense to keep them back on their heels for a full 60 minutes, and I fully expect the Saints to take advantage of this suspect unit. Grab the points with the road team as they’ve proven in the past to be a solid proposition when playing the role of visitor.
