Front-office Execs: Terrell Owens is 'Done'

Bills wide receiver Terrell Owens’ career has “hit a wall,” and his days as an impact player in the NFL are over, several personnel executives tell Yahoo!Sports. As Owens was the subject of trade speculation ahead of Tuesday’s deadline, the Web site asked front-office executives whether the wide receiver 1) has any significant trade value, and 2) where his career is going.
“I think [his career is] done or close to it. He’ll have a couple of games here and there where he shows up, but big picture, long term, I think it’s done.”
Owens has just 15 catches for 215 yards and just one touchdown this season. His yards-after-catch average is just 3.3, the lowest of his career.
“I hear that he’s one of the greatest of all time, but I don’t buy it – never did,” one general manager told the Web site.

Some reports before the trade deadline said the Ravens were interested in trading for Owens, a scenario shot down by one Baltimore player. The player said Ravens GM Ozzie Newsome was “furious” with Owens for forcing his way onto the Eagles after Baltimore had acquired him via trade from San Francisco in 2004. Owens later trashed Newsome in his autobiography, “Catch This!”, alleging that Newsome told his agent, Drew Rosenhaus, that “sometimes a black man’s gotta be slapped.”
"Do you think Ozzie would trade for him after that?,” the Ravens player said. “He’ll never have a job [in Baltimore].”
Meanwhile, players around the league seem to have the same opinion about Owens’ career as the executives quoted in the Yahoo!Sports story. While the Jets last Sunday put cornerback Darrelle Revis on Owens for most plays, the team told other defensive backs that if they were lined up against him, hitting him at the line of scrimmage would render him ineffective. Owens was targeted eight times, catching three balls for only 13 yards.
"I don’t think we doubled him once,” a Jets player told the Web site.
