Week 2: Injury updates around the NFL

    AFC East
Buffalo Bills: Linebacker Takeo Spikes didn't practice Friday. He's listed as questionable after having missed the entire week of practice because of a hamstring injury. Rookie Keith Ellison is expected to start.
Miami Dolphins: Cornerback Travis Daniels practiced all week on the ankle injury that sidelined him in the opener but he remains questionable for the Bills game. Guard Joe Berger is the only Dolphin who missed practice. He's out with a foot injury.
New England Patriots: The Patriots are in pretty good shape heading into the game against the Jets. Safety Rodney Harrison was back on the field after missing Thursday's practice with the flu. Safety Artrell Hawkins returned after missing a day with a sore thigh. Linebacker Tedy Bruschi has a chance to make his 2006 debut. He has practiced for five consecutive days with his wrist injury. Wide receiver Chad Jackson has been practicing on the hamstring injury that has nagged him the entire summer. He has a chance to be active.
New York Jets: It will be a game-time decision whether Pete Kendall will play. He's got a thigh injury and even though he's practiced all week, the Jets signed Wade Smith just in case. The Jets could also play Trey Teague if Kendall can't go. Wide receiver Tim Dwight is also questionable with a thigh injury. Offensive line is the only major issues for the Jets.

    AFC South
Houston Texans:The Texans added defensive tackle Travis Johnson to the injury report as probable with a calf injury. He is expected to play. Out are cornerbacks DeMarcus Faggins (foot) and Phillip Buchanon (ankle). Center Mike Flanagan practiced Friday with a groin injury that lists him as probable and should be able to play.
Indianapolis Colts: Wide receiver Brandon Stokley practiced Friday on the sore ankle that sidelined him for the opener and has a chance to play. He's listed as questionable along with 17 other Colts. Sorting through that list of questionables, safety Bob Sanders (knee) practiced and should be able to start. Already ruled out are running back DeDe Dorsey (ankle), defensive tackle Corey Simon (knee), defensive end Josh Thomas (hip) and linebacker Freddie Keiaho (knee). From the list of questionables, guard Ryan Lilja (knee) and tight end Ben Hartsock (hamstring) aren't expected to play.
Jacksonville Jaguars: Five Jaguars who are listed as questionable practiced Friday, giving them all a good chance to play the Monday night game against the Steelers. The five players are defensive tackle Marcus Stroud (ankle), safety Gerald Sensabaugh (ankle), defensive end Paul Spicer (groin), linebacker Mike Peterson (knee) and tight end Marcedes Lewis (ankle) will remain questionable but they are each making progress to be on the field. Spicer's return is important because the Jaguars lost defensive end Reggie Hayward for the season with a torn Achilles.
Tennessee Titans: Tight end Erron Kinney and defensive end Antwan Odom are out with knee injuries. Guard Benji Olson (hamstring) and halfback LenDale White (ankle) practiced on Friday and have a good chance of playing. Both are listed as questionable. Defensive tackle Robaire Smith (hamstring), tackle Jacob Bell (toe), fullback Ahmard Hall (ankle) and halfback Travis Henry (toe) remain very questionable after missing most of the practices this week. Henry's injury could open the door for White to be on the active roster.

    AFC North
Baltimore Ravens: Ten players who were listed as questionable were upgraded to probable after most of them practiced Friday. The only players who missed part of practice were halfback Jamal Lewis (hip) and linebacker Gary Stills (hand), but the fact they were upgraded signifies that they will play. Tight end Todd Heap (back), kicker Matt Stover (back) and safety Ed Reed (thigh) are on the injury report now as probable.
Cincinnati Bengals: The Bengals downgraded wide receiver T.J. Houshmandzadeh to questionable after he missed practice Friday with a heel injury. He missed the opener with that same injury. Housmandzadeh had been listed as probable all week so it appears the injury isn't getting any better. Chris Henry will probably start for him. The Bengals also downgraded left tackle Levi Jones from probable to questionable because of an ankle injury. Jones has missed a lot of practice this week. Andrew Whitworth would start if Jones can't go. The Bengals could also use guard Eric Steinbach at tackle if Jones can't play. Linebacker A.J. Nicholson (hamstring) and wide receiver Antonio Chatman (groin) are out. Defensive end Frostee Rucker is questionable with a shoulder injury but he practiced Friday. Defensive tackle Sam Adams practiced despite a sore knee that has him listed as probable. Cornerback Deltha O'Neal is probable with a knee injury but he practiced.
Cleveland Browns: The Browns added safety Brodney Pool (quad) and linebacker Willie McGinest (calf) to the injury report Friday as probable. They missed a portion of practice Friday but both are expected to play. The Browns are down four players in the game -- wide receiver Joe Jurevicius (ribs), defensive end Nick Eason (ankle), tight end Darnell Dinkins (hamstring) and cornerback Daylon McCutcheon (knee). Safety Brian Russell is questionable with an elbow injury, but he played with the injury last week. Russell has a chance to play.
Pittsburgh Steelers: Ben Roethlisberger had a good practice Friday and appears set to start Monday against the Jaguars. His listed as questionable, but he has practiced all week. No one missed practice the past two days. Hines Ward is fine on his hamstring injury. Safety Troy Polamalu was upgraded from questionable to probable on Thursday with his shoulder injury.

    AFC West
Denver Broncos: Defensive end Courtney Brown (knee) remains doubtful but don't expect him to play against the Chiefs. Six other players are listed as probable but they are all expected to be available.
Kansas City Chiefs: The Chiefs added wide receiver Eddie Kennison to the injury list with a tight back but he is expected to play. The Chiefs list him as probable. Quarterback Trent Green is out and won't make the trip because of his concussion. Linebacker Boomer Grigsby was downgraded to questionable because of a foot injury. Defensive end Tamba Hali is probable and should be able to start.
Oakland Raiders: The Raiders left for Baltimore with a lot of problems on their injury report. Left tackle Robert Gallery will be out for a little less than a month because of a partially torn calf. He will be replaced by Chad Slaughter. Cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha is very questionable after missing the past couple of days because of a foot injury. Art Shell will make a game-time decision on whether he will play. Linebacker Sammy Williams missed Friday's practice because of an ankle injury and probably won't be able to go. He's listed as probable but he's hurting. Robert Thomas or Grant Irons is expected to start for him. Cornerback Chris Carr has a calf injury and is questionable. That will hurt their special teams because of his return ability. Backup defensive end Kevin Huntley is questionable with a foot injury. Quarterback Aaron Brooks will start despite a sore knee. Shell is leaning toward keeping wide receiver Jerry Porter inactive.
San Diego Chargers: There were no changes on the Chargers injury report. Tight end Aaron Shea is doubtful with a back injury. Four players listed as questionable are very questionable. They are defensive end Igor Olshansky (knee), tight end Ryan Krause (hamstring), tackle Leander Jordan (neck) and guard Kris Dielman (hamstring). Dielman has the best chance to play from that group because he's practicing.

    NFC East
Dallas Cowboys: Everyone practiced for the Cowboys Friday. The only player on the injury list is wide receiver Jamaica Rector, who is questionable with an ankle injury. Bill Parcells hasn't decided whether he will have two kickers active for the game. Mike Vanderjagt is expected to make his 2006 Cowboys debut but Shaun Suisham might be active to handle the kickoffs. Parcells will make that decision Saturday.
New York Giants:The only Giant who didn't practice Friday was halfback Derrick Ward, who has already been ruled out with a foot injury. Guard Chris Snee returned to practice after missing most of the week with an ankle injury. Snee was optimistic he would play after Thursday's practice. Linebacker LaVar Arrington (knee), tight end Jeremy Shockey (ankle) and linebacker Brandon Short (knee) are probable. Each practiced Friday.
Philadelphia Eagles: Halfback Brian Westbrook rested his knee a second day of practice Friday but remains probable for Sunday's game against the Giants. The Eagles will be without cornerback Lito Sheppard because of an ankle injury. Roderick Hood starts for him. Sheppard was the only other Eagle who didn't practice. Running back Reno Mahe remains questionable with an ankle injury but he practiced. Defensive end Jerome McDougle is probable with a rib injury. Linebacker Jeremiah Trotter is probable with a knee injury but he practiced Friday.
Washington Redskins: Once again, mixed signals are coming out of the Redskins involving the status of halfback Clinton Portis. Joe Gibbs downgraded Portis to doubtful because of the dislocated shoulder and all but ruled him of the game against the Cowboys. Gibbs said he won't play anyone who doesn't practice, but Portis thinks he has a chance to play and believes it's up to him. Gibbs said a different part of the shoulder is hurting. Tight end Christian Fauria didn't practice and is expected to miss the Cowboys because of a shin injury. Cornerback Shawn Springs is out with an abdominal injury. Cowboys coach Bill Parcells expects Portis to play despite the status on the injury report.

    NFC South
Atlanta Falcons: Defensive end John Abraham missed Friday's practice with a groin injury and his chances of playing don't look good. He's listed as questionable. Abraham has a history of groin problems and probably will sit this one out. Middle linebacker Ed Hartwell was downgraded to doubtful with a knee injury and will miss the game. The Falcons added cornerback DeAngelo Hall to the injury report with a minor thigh injury. He's listed as probable but will play. Defensive end Patrick Kerney is expected to play despite a triceps injury.
Carolina Panthers: Coach John Fox walked off the field Friday and said there was no change whatsoever on the injury report and that's bad news for the Panthers. Wide receiver Steve Smith hasn't practiced in two weeks because of hamstring injuries. Though listed as questionable, it's very unlikely he will play. Center Justin Hartwig missed another day of work because of a groin injury. He's questionable but probably won't play. Middle linebacker Dan Morgan is out with a concussion. Backup running back Nick Goings missed practiced with a thigh injury. He's questionable and will probably be replaced by Eric Shelton as the Panthers third running back. If Hartwig can't go, the Panthers will have several changes along the offensive line. Geoff Hangartner will start at center. With Travelle Wharton out for the season, Jordan Gross moves from right tackle to left tackle and Todd Fordham takes over at right tacke. Right guard Evan Mathis will remain the starting right guard despite struggling in the opener against the Falcons.
New Orleans Saints: The Saints will be without fullback Mike Karney (calf) and safety Bryan Scott (hamstring). Defensive tackle Rodney Leisle has a chance to play. He's questionable with a knee injury.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers: The Bucs won't have guard Davin Joseph (knee) and deep-snapping tight end Dave Moore (ribs) for Sunday's game against the Falcons. The Bucs will either let tight end Doug Jolley do the snapping or bring a player off the practice squad to handle those duties. The Bucs are reluctant to make a roster move and appear to be ready to go with Jolley and Jeb Terry handling the snapping. Halfback Cadillac Williams returned to practice Friday after missing Thursday with back spasms. He's probable. Guard Dan Buenning should play despite being listed as questionable. He practiced for three days on the ankle that sidelined him for the opener. Cornerback Brian Kelly is probable with a foot injury and should play.
