We pretty much all agree that Favre needs to hang it up, but how much of the 26-0 shutout win by the Bears do attribute to the Bears being good?
Is Chicago that good or was Green Bay that bad?

#2No comment... Greend bay does not have it as a team yet...
Chicago is average but looked awesome against the Packers... the bears do have a tight defense line though... big guys...

#4While the Packers aren't the best measure of ultimate success for the Bears, I sure liked how they looked Sunday. They moved the ball well, which is what limited a great defensive team last season. Defense wins football gmes, IMHO, and with a little help from their offense this season, the Bear could take it all the way. Great coaching from last season's coach of the year, Lovie Smith, and the advantage of playing in Soldier Field won't hurt Chicago's chanced, either.
In other words, I think the Bears are that good.Comment -

#5I think the Bears are that good and GB is that bad, this coming from a GB fan. I would like to be one of the first to call for Mike McCarthys job, see ya, you're not qualified to be a head coach. That also leads me to the front office who hired this turd. GB needs major changes, its going to be many many years after #4 is gone to rebuild this poor teamComment -

#6I think its mainly Green Bay is that bad, Chicago's offense i think is improved over last year, but i expect ups/downs with Grossman. I bet on Green Bay + 3.5 and it was a loser by the end of the first quarter.Comment -

#7The Bears won't be as good as advertised and it comes down to their offense. They're an excellent, or elite, defense. They beat the snot out of the Packers, but the Packers D held their own real well against the Bears offense. Also, the Packers, preseason included, have put together some of the worst special teams play I've ever seen in watching football - while the Bears look very strong there.
The Packers O is pathetic, but when was the last good O in the NFL that didn't have an offensive line, too? GB has 2 better than average Tackles, 2 pretty under-talented rookie guards (that COULD develop) and a pedestrian center that would be best described as 'serviceable'.
If the Pack ran into an elite team, the score would be a lot more brutal. Chicago has a bottom 10-15 O right now, unless Grossman develops real well real quick. He looks o.k., but he doesn't handle pressure well at all and makes TERRIBLE decisions in those spots... But he's also very inexperienced.
I wouldn't be shocked at all if the Vikings won the division. The Bears are going to need Grossman to really develop and improve if they want to be competitive in the NFC - right now, they aren't good enough to be in the elite in the conference. They are on the fringe, though.
As for GB, I wouldn't be shocked if they won 1 game or less. I still think they'll sneak 2 out, but they have about as bad a team in the NFL right now, if not the worst.Comment -

As a lifelong Steeler fan, I have to go with ya on the Raiders! But I think along with your bold statement, you have to add a dash of 49ers, a sprinkle of Bucs and perhaps even a 1/2 cup of Panthers to make that recipe work!Comment -

#10Bears are that good. Plus they have an incredibly easy division.
Green Bay is just horrible. So bad they just signed Koren Robinson. TGHey made no commitment to improve the lines this year, and Farve is shot.Comment -

#11I think that its mostly GB being that bad. Although its seems like the Bears just match up great against GB right now.
The Bears gave up a lot of rushing yards so I doubt their D is going to end up as strong as last year.Comment -

#13Those rushing yards were in garbage time when they were taking away the passing lanes first.
GB DID run the ball o.k., but they got behind and gave up on it for a few series.
GB's run blocking was HORRIBLE early in the game with lots of missed assignments, but Ahman Green is not a 'normal' back. He did run well and get tough yards that great backs do.
I wouldn't be TOO worried about the Bear's run D.Comment -

#14It's hard to tell based on one game which was a blowout. Same thing for San Diego thumping Oakland, Atlanta thumping Carolina, and Baltimore thumping Tampa Bay. Is San Diego, Atlanta, & Baltimore really that much better than Oakland, Carolina, & Tampa Bay? Last week they were, but one week's performance can only say so much.
Regarding the Packers & Bears, everyone knew before the game that the Bears were a lot better than the Packers and the line reflected that. The actual game displayed the Bears doing business as usual as if this game was played as a continuation after last season. The Packers are a different story, they've got a new coach and lots of new players, all of which are still trying to fit together. The Packers will improve as the season goes forward, the real question is how much and how fast.
P.S. Quit bashing Favre. He was the least reason why the Bears rolled on Sunday. Favre doesn't play special teams. Favre doesn't play defense. I almost want to suggest that lining up Favre at left guard would help the Packers as a team. Favre is not the problem right now. If he gets hammered in the coming weeks behind this weak O-line, I'll welcome criticism as he tries to play with a broken throwing hand or other injury. Right now, he looks sharp.Comment -

#15bears with a brad johson type qb = serious superbowl contender
gb = lucky to win 5 games
can rex stay on the field and not turn it over??? no ones knows yet cause he is still basically a rookie. griese can lead them to the playoffs too. running game looked suspect in the preseason but looked ok so far. bears should definitely make the playoffs again and possibly could win it all.Comment -

#16man it's not cold enough for the Packer's to pull off a hot streak. Besides they are a veteran team, they will know what ajustment to make for the next game.Comment -

#18lol, for real, JB.
I wonder who actually watches these games. I mean, whistle to whistle, but then has an opinion.
It should be a disclaimer before you talk.
I've talked in other threads about GB's youth and general crappiness.
It's the one thing about the NFL that drives me nuts... It's hard to know who to trust, because you don't know who watches the game... The dopes on ESPN sure don't. That's why I look here, hoping someone can watch games that I miss and actually offer reality beyond a press release or a box score or a 15 second highlight reel.
Football is a 60 minute game. Every play DOES mean something - that's where a square makes their money:>Comment
