    Weather sucks
See why weather does not matter in any game? I mean it does play a factor but If teams want to win. They can score through a hurricane. Today's forecast for the San Diego vs Pittsburgh game called for Snow Showers. The score was 20-22 Points over the posted total. Who could have predicted that? Just like that Arizona vs New England game. It was snowing and the score was soaring. I don't know what point I'm making ( maybe because I took a beating from the books today ) but I guess thats why they call it gambling.

    First post, so ... sorry.

It seems heavy wind and heavy rain are the two main factors that can affect a team. I guess you can add snow ... it all depends on visibility. I try not to let weather influence my decision unless I know it's going to affect playing conditions. I assume you're mostly talking about totals.

If you saw the second half of the Tulsa-Ball State game in the GMAC Bowl last week, those are the types of conditions that must be present to truly make a difference. I spoke to the Tulsa coach the night before that game and he said he was going to put up as many points as possible while his team was on national TV; if they were up 60 points, they were still going to try to score.

Knowing this, I took the over in the game even though I live in Mobile and knew rain was forecast. Meanwhile everyone else in the country was looking at the forecast and jumping on the under. What happened? There was little to no rain the entire first half, and the scoreboard indicated that as Tulsa had a huge lead. Then the bottom dropped -- it rained like it hadn't rained in months and kept on raining -- after a quick Tulsa TD to open the second half, it became obvious that the only thing anyone cared about was getting the game over with. However, those people who played the under got extremely lucky due to the intensity of the downpour. This is why I hesitate to make weather too much of a factor.

If that game had started an hour earlier, the rain wouldn't have come until the end of the game when the total would have likely gone over. Likewise, teams are going to abandon their game plan in the event a game is already a blowout. A closer game, on the other hand, would be a different situation. The point is that in order for weather to be the sole factor affecting the outcome, it has to be extreme in some way, shape or form like the example above. It's good to take into account when handicapping, but should be done with a grain of salt.

Couldn't have said that any better. Make your decision first then factor the weather later as its probably only 20% affective in the outcome of a game. Thats what I think I'll do. Oh well only one game left in the East Coast so there isn't much to worry about. I love how all the games in this year's championships have something to do with rematches and revenge.
