Another season of college basketball is upon us. This is definitely my favorite sport to handicap along with baseball as there is so much that takes place on a daily basis that you can be handsomely rewarded if you stay on top of it. In the past I've only focused a few conferences and the top teams as I didn't have as much time working a strenuous full-time job. Now that I've got that out of the way, I am fully dedicated focused on the entire world that is college hoops. I'm going to be providing my selections to help keep me focused and accountable, and hopefully make everyone some money in the process. I will have a lot of plays early in the season when the lines aren't as tight and cut down as they get sharper. I play more dogs than favorites, but not as much as in the past. I will provide brief thoughts on some games, but for most I will not as it will be too time consuming. I also try to play the openers and grab the best number that I see, but will wait for the lines to move in some cases. Finally, all of my plays are for one unit unless I state otherwise. I believe in flat betting for the most part, but will occasionally have a 2-unit play if I feel that my advantage is overwhelming.
Here's my first selection of the season on November 8:
Pittsburgh -11.5
I love this play for a variety of reasons. First off, Pitt brings back 7 of their top 8 scorers from a year ago when they finished second in the Big East. Rhode Island lost 2 key starters in Cothran and Ulmer and also are missing a couple of their bigs for this game. Pitt is without Robinson but this is a VERY deep team team, so I don't expect that to affect them much. Coach Jamie Dixon is 7-0 in openers at Pitt and the average margin of victory is nearly 19 points per game. This is one my projected Final Four teams this year and I expect them to get out of the gates early and roll in this one.
