NCAA Moves Men's 3-Point Line Back as Part of Rule Changes for 2019-20 Season

Beginning in the 2019-20 season, the men's college basketball three-point line will move more than a foot back after the NCAA Playing Rules Oversight Panel approved new rules for the upcoming year.

Rhode Island may not make a 3 pointer all season now. Great!

The real problem is the shot clock, too many games with both teams in the 50s because possessions take too long, go to a 24 second shot clock.

This will make the game less exciting, probably lower scoring

I won't complain too much until they force quarters instead of halves.

Drew I’m playing with ACC referee Jamie Luckie in an outing in July. They are having their tryout camp in AC so are having a tourney for all their officials the day before. Spoke with him on phone today. Actually seemed like nice guy.

Very interesting USC. You need to keep us posted how this goes. Should be a very insightful outing.

I do believe this is the direction NCAA is headed. Maybe within next 5-6 years. I would welcome the quarters change also.

If you really want a solid change that would improve both NBA and NCAA Basketball here it goes.

1.Raise the rim 4 inches for both leagues. This makes slam dunking a reasonable amount of difficulty.

    2. Widen the court 2-3 feet width. And 2-3 feet length wise. This would allow for more spacing in the leagues yes bith. and it would allow more open space for movement.

    3. Move the 3 point line BACK in the NBA another foot and a half...yes that far. Currently everyone and their brother can make a 3 ball.

The game needs to catch up with the human race. Athletes are so much more superior year over year the court needs to grow as well.

We need 11 foot rims, like that one Opie dunked on in his driveway.

THat one you can't do because it's always been 10 feet and you can't just changed the height of the rim like that because kids play on 10 foot rims since they're 5, 10 years old. Every rim is always 10 feet everywhere. So you'd literally have to change rims starting with elementary schools/aau/summer stuff/etc.

The nba court is bigger and wider than the ncaa court. Ncaa court is a pussy court. ncaa in general is a bitch league. kids scared to take pull up jumpers from midrange. joke. nba court is big enough, teams over the years have gotten tons of spacing with good schemes and coaching.

moving the 3 line back could be good in the nba.

Was thinking the same thing about the sudden rim height change.

It's like these guys that made it to the NFL tackling a certain way, then once they get there the rules change on them.

It must be tough, if not impossible, to undo all that dedication and change your technique so drastically.

Some of those NFL defenders simply said they wouldn't change how they play, not one bit.

Love the change. College 3 needs to go back even further, probably will in a few more years.

Some crazy ideas in here tho. Raise the rim?! Fukk no. Bigger court also seems silly. Shot clock is just fine, 30 secs for college/international/wnba and 24 for nba. Remember college game actually runs sets, unlike the hero ball iso game in nba.
