Yep. Sources said there was "mutual interest" a few weeks ago. Cal has done this w the NBA over the years to leverage better contracts w UK and Nike and it works every time lmfao

UCLA should have no problem hiring a high profile coach, these coaches can live on the Ocean side here in So Cal in a great area like Santa Monica or Brentwood, enjoy the great weather and it's only a short drive away to the Pauley Pavilion on Campus.. I know I live here. UCLA is a long jog away from where I live now near the beach

The pay will be good also for any coach that signs on..

UCLA just needs to recruit good players coming out of high school!!! Another Lew Alcindor or Bill Walton like back in the day would work.

Dixon's a good coach, look what happened to PItt when he left, the question is if he can recruit, he has no significant current ties to the west coast and he's not a former NBA player.

He’s from North Hollywood, so he’s back home at least. You’re right though, he doesn’t have significant ties to the west coast right now. I think that will change pretty quickly. Talented kids out west already line up to go to UCLA. So it shouldn’t take long to setup shop out there. Wouldn’t be surprised if he used his ties now to lure kids to Cali. Not a hard sell to get kids to go to a school with nice weather and beautiful women. Could see some Texas kids that want to get away from home end up there.

Regardless, talent is a plenty out west and the PAC-12 is weak. Hopkins is making UW into a contender, but other than that there’s not much competition. Zona dealing with the FBI. That’s huge for UCLA as they recruit the same kids a lot. Oregon recruits well, and will be in the mix too. They find kids all over the country and Canada. Plenty of talent to be had for UCLA. I think he has them back in the tourney by year 3.

They should just go get Rich Pitino..yes they would get lot of criticism but who cares. Rich would be UCLA right back. He is great coach and needs to get back into the game!

Could definitely see it being earlier than year 3. Final four, nope. He only made the sweet 16 twice, with one Elite 8. Though he will have more talent to work with at UCLA.

Funny how they got rid of Howland, and now they’re hiring one his disciples.

Yes very ironic. Similar philosophy as howland but a much more likable guy. Let's see if he can make 3 final fours like howland did

So does that mean the UCLA assistant he just hired at TCU will stay at TCU?

Some kind of trade or just timing?

    Funny situation there.

Surely UCLA would never hire Bennett anyways. Can you imagine him bringing his brand of shit ball ugliness to UCLA?

Barnes another who can’t win in the tourney. He can recruit just like anyone else at UCLA. They fall into your lap.

It’s pretty much equal to Dixon. Barnes may be able to bring in more talent though with his connections. Not so clean connections, but what’s it matter these days. He will have them back in the tourney by year 3.

Cuser if he can morph to the socal culture I think he can have them in the tourney even quicker. He took Tenn to the tourney in year 3 and that was a rebuild job. He can get kids at ucla that Tenn has no prayer of getting, and the Pac 12 sucks right now. A tier 1 or tier 2 coach can dominate this conf.

    Barnes staying at Tennessee

coaches are using UCLA like a little whore, leveraging them to get better deals at their current schools. national punchline.
