Marist +6 for a unit...too many problems for Fairfield right now

FAIRFIELD -- The bad news continues to pile up for the Fairfield men's basketball team, which found out Tuesday it will be without the service of sophomore forward Warren Edney for at least the next month due to a right ankle injury. Edney did not play in Monday night's 65-61 loss at Manhattan and now has the ankle, which he injured in mid-December, in a cast.
"He's out four to six weeks and could be done for the year," head coach Ed Cooley said.
In addition to sorting out the team's injuries, Cooley was also waiting to speak with assistant coach Brian Blaney about an incident with senior guard Jonathan Han outside the locker room after Monday's loss. Blaney, who was on the road recruiting Tuesday, exchanged words with Han after the game, which was Fairfield's third straight loss.
The loss to the Jaspers dropped Fairfield (12-9, 5-5 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference) into a fourth-place tie in the MAAC along with Manhattan, Iona and Loyola (Md.).
The Stags were hoping for good news on junior forward Greg Nero, who went for an MRI on his sore lower back Tuesday. Nero was pulled from the starting lineup against Manhattan before the game, but played 11 second-half minutes and scored seven points. He has battled the injury after a fall against Saint Peter's on Jan. 15.
Also among the wounded is junior forward Anthony Johnson, who has been playing through a sore groin and also an upper respiratory problem. The Stags hope to have both Johnson and Nero for Friday night's game against Marist (7:30 p.m.) at the Arena at Harbor Yard.

The Stags did get Herbie Allen back for the Manhattan game, but the senior guard was less than 100 percent due to a bruised left hand. Allen, who missed one game due to the injury, played 35 minutes Monday, but took just four shots and appeared to still be in some pain

Just briefly looking over the games and spread tomorrow, Marist is the only safe bet I see. What is Fairfield going to do if Allen is out? Trot out four forwards?

G Jonathan Han clearly wasn’t happy after the loss at Manhattan and was heard screaming at assistant coach Brian Blaney in the hallway after the game. He didn’t start the home game against Rider, ending his starting streak at 69 games, but played 34 minutes anyway. He then started at Manhattan and played 39 minutes. Han shot 4-for-18 in the two games, 2-for-12 from 3-point range. He had six turnovers at Manhattan after coughing it up just once against Rider.

Looks like the sharps may have been a little ahead of Vegas this morning, Marist is now down to +5, suggest you jump on it before it drops anymore. Might be worth a ML shot as well.

Han has been suspended for a couple of games.

This game worries me a bit. These injuries and team problems are no secret. Been going on for a while now. But yet the linesmakers still put them at a 6.5 favorite.

Fairfield was in the manhattan game the entire time. Actually Manhattan got out to a big lead in each half and both times Fairfield closed the gap. Fairfield had a shot to win the game in the end, and Manhattan had a huge height advantage over them.

Line came down to 4 earlier, but is now creeping back up currently at 4.5. I also find it odd that my book would be running a reduced juice special on this game given the fact that everyone expects Fairfield to implode. Why attract more attention to a game if the books are going to take a hit on it?

I woudn't be surprised to see Fairfied cover this line. They are desperate for a win.

It'll all depend on how banged up Nero and Allen are.
