Melo is an even bigger risk for LA. They're renting him for half of a season and he will just bolt for NY. This doesn't help LA at all. They'd be left with nothing in 5 months and are so far over the cap that they won't be able to replace Melo with a quality free agent.

Second, Bynum's potential is still huge. He has more trade value than what NYK have offered off of cap relief, alone.
Kenyon Martin's contract expires this year, and Billups would drop off next year with Bynum. That's $45m between 3 players (not even counting JR Smith, Affalo and Nene) and practically the entire salary cap and gives them the freedom to sign 2 max players.

Melo would instantly sign the extension with the Lakers if the trade went through. Dont kid yourself about NY.

Bynum is NOT expiring! That is not cap relief. Knicks offer was Chandler and Curry which ARE expiring so how is Bynums not expiring deal worth more in cap relief if it ADDS salary.

And Melo himself is expiring so the Nuggs just wanted cap relief they would just let that happen.

dude obviously if the trade were to go through it would be dependant on melo signing an extension. the lakers arent gonna trade bynum to rent melo for a couple months.
u realize how often bynum gets hurt? y would denver want to pay close to 15mil a year for a player that cant stay healthy? when u trade melo ur basically gonna have to blow up ur team, y add salary when ur gonna be bad? u get cap space and draft picks, none of which a lakers trade will adequately provide.

the more i think about it this could be a desperate attempt by denver to make the knicks go along w/ a sense of urgency...the trade makes no sense from a basketball standpoint

Yeah, these losses were clearly their own decision... LMFAO!

I think Kobe knows this team can't compete for much longer. He would welcome Melo if it meant a 3rd ring no matter how short his stay was.

It's wishful thinking but I don't think they will pull a deal like that off. Just because they lose two to two bad teams doesn't mean their going to panic. They know that it's a long season and you have some bad games. Good Luck
