    General public O/U
Does the general public like overs or unders more. Trying to figure out when it is the best time to lock up an over/under pick based on the general publics tendencies sorta like taking a favorite early and a dog late. Seems to me that totals get bet down once first released. Thanks in advance.

Well normally rule of thumb is that sharps love unders, and squares like overs. A line can be moved on both # of bets, and smart money, respectively. I'd watch SBRLines for a few hours, and see which way other books are moving their lines, then jump on it at your book, when you think the time is right.

      Also, for playoff time...

Oddsmakers generally drop totals in the postseason. They learned to do this many years back because the sharps would always kill them by playing Unders! That's really been true in all sports for many years. You expect defense and conservative play in the postseason because so much is at stake. In NBA and college basketball, scoring clearly drops from regular season norms. With certain styles of teams, it drops A LOT.

Ok that is what what I was thinking since totals seem to drop like a rock once released. Thanks for the help Chute...I will be sitting out the post season anyways and track on paper.

Yeah over always the easier pick to make= square play....An over can hit with 5 minutes to go, an under is usually a teeth grinding affair...I stay away from totals unless I really like something, too much stress....Hey Dio, you ever go up to yellowstone, Im thinking of spending the summer there...how remote is it??? Some friends go do that all summer work thing...I lived in mountains for 1/2 year here in WV which wasnt too bad but never been out west..I mean the real west...like Wyoming Colorado etc...Ive been to Cali and Las Vegas several times....anyways

No sad to say I have never made it to Yellowstone. Planning to go on a fishing trip there this summer with some friends. I live on the opposite corner of Wyoming. It honestly can't get much better than the mountains. I would take mountains over a city any day. Right now I am an hour away from the Big Horns and a little over an hour away from the Black Hills.

I like to say when betting the under...."you're a winner till you're a loser"

Most "sharp" bettors generally look toward unders. However, you never want to completely rule off overs as there are a number of situations where the over is a strong play. Pretty much, it's a case by case basis, but overall general public loves the over.

Do keep in mind though, only about 10% of bettors play over/unders.

Thanks for the reply BuddyBear...I was just asking because every time I place an over bet (probably about 10% of my bets on totals) I usually end up with a bad number. I should have learned by now to wait until the total gets bet down. After the replies it seems like the best choice to wait if I like an over and jump right away if I like an under.

One thing you have to remember if you do like an over or even a favorite, about 70% of the time money will come on the dog and the under so you're better off waiting.

Just watch SBRlines and you'll see that pattern routinely emerge....
