REDHAWKS RETURN HOME TO HOST BOWLING GREEN SATURDAY: Miami returns home to host Bowling Green in a critical MAC matchup that will be nationally televised on ESPNU Saturday, Feb. 26 at 11 a.m. The RedHawks are trying to bounce back from a two-game skid and maintain their position among the top two in the MAC East Division standings. Bowling Green is trying to snap a four-game losing streak and also make some movement in a tight MAC race.
ABOUT THE FALCONS: Bowling Green enter's Saturday's game with a 12-16 overall record and a 7-6 Mid-American Conference mark. After starting league action 7-3, the Falcons have dropped their last four games, including their BracketBuster game at Youngstown State last Saturday (83-67) and a 70-60 loss at Ohio on Wednesday. Two players are averaging double figures for BGSU. A'uston Calhoun averages 11.7 ppg, while Scott Thomas follows closely behind with 11.6 ppg. Thomas also averages a team-leading 7.1 rpg. In MAC-only games, Calhoun averages 14.1 ppg and Thomas averages 13.4 ppg. As a team, the Falcons lead the MAC in steals per game (8.7), while Thompson leads the MAC in conference-only games, averaging 1.92 steals per game.
THE SERIES VERSUS BOWLING GREEN: Saturday marks the 125th meeting between Miami and Bowling Green with the RedHawks holding an 75-49 lead in the all-time series. Bowling Green has won the last two meetings between the teams--both coming in Anderson Arena--including a 72-53 win earlier this season. When playing in Oxford, Miami has a 43-14 advantage. The RedHawks have won six straight against the Falcons in Millett Hall. Miami's last win in the series also was its last win over BGSU in Oxford, a 64-52 triumph on Jan. 23, 2010. Bowling Green's last win at Millett Hall came on Feb. 20, 2002, 65-50.
UP NEXT: The RedHawks round out the regular season at Buffalo at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, March 2 in a game televised by STO before hosting long-time rival Ohio at 7 p.m. on Friday, March 4 in the Battle of the Bricks.
SATURDAY'S GAME: In addition to the Cradle of Coaches Association recognition at halftime, CHAMPionship readers from local elementary schools also will be honored.
TELEVISION: Saturday's game will be televised on ESPNU, the third time this season Miami has appeared on ESPNU and its first home nationally-televised game of the season. Justin Kutcher and Dickey Simpkins will call the action. The RedHawks' game at Buffalo on Wednesday, March 2 also will be televised. The game will air on SportTime Ohio with Michael Reghi and Steve Mix calling the action.
MIAMI SPORTS NETWORK FROM IMG COLLEGE: In its fourth year of its partnership with IMG College, the Miami Sports Network from IMG College continues its coverage of Miami men's basketball with a group of affiliates blanketing most of Southwest Ohio and Southeast Indiana. "The Voice of the RedHawks" Steve Baker delivers the play-by-play coverage, while Joe Barry provides color commentary. Tune in to one of Miami's game-day affiliates: WMOH-AM 1450 (Hamilton, OH), WFMG-FM 101.3 (Richmond, IN), WDJO-AM 1480 (Cincinnati).
MAKING A STRONG CASE FOR PLAYER OF THE YEAR: Junior forward Julian Mavunga is proving he is one of the dominant players in the Mid-American Conference this season by the numbers he has put up in conference play to spearhead Miami to one of the top league records. Mavunga is the only player in the MAC to rank among the top 15 in MAC-only games in scoring (6th), rebounding (1st) and assists (13th). He also ranks among the top 15 in field goal percentage (12th), free-throw percentage (14th) and assist/turnover ratio (14th).
WINBUSH DOING DOUBLE TIME: Twice this season senior forward Nick Winbush has produced back-to-back double-doubles. At James Madison (Feb. 19), Winbush recorded 11 points and 10 rebounds after a career-high-tying 26 points and 12 rebounds against Kent State on Feb. 16. He was tabbed MAC East Division Player of the Week on Feb. 21 after averaging 18.5 ppg and 11.0 rpg against JMU and KSU. Earlier this season, Winbush amassed 15 points and 12 rebounds at Kent State (Jan. 23) and had 11 points and 12 rebounds at Akron (Jan. 19). Winbush has five double-doubles this season and seven for his career.
CASHING IN THE 20s: Junior forward Julian Mavunga has scored in the 20s six times this season, including five of Miami's last 12 games. At James Madison, Mavunga led all players with 24 points. He poured in a career-high 27 points--the most by a RedHawk this season--against Ball State on Feb. 1, recorded 22 points against Western Michigan on Jan. 29, amassed 25 points against Akron on Jan. 19, tallied 21 points against Buffalo on Jan. 13 and 24 points against Xavier on Dec. 1. These are the first 20-point scoring efforts of his career.
TURNING 20: In addition to junior forward Julian Mavunga's six 20-point scoring efforts, four other RedHawks have scored in the 20s this season. Sophomore guard Allen Roberts and senior forward Nick Winbush have reached the 20-point mark twice. Winbush tied a career-high with 26 points against Kent State on Feb. 16 and also hit the 20-point mark at Central Michigan (Jan. 27), scoring 20 points. Roberts tossed in a career-high 23 points against Northern Illinois to lead all scorers on Feb. 9 and collected 20 points in Miami's season opener against Towson on Nov. 12. Senior forward Antonio Ballard amassed a career-high 26 points at Ohio on Jan. 9, while freshman guard Josh Sewell posted 20 points against Ball State (Feb. 1).
CLEANING THE GLASS: Junior forward Julian Mavunga hauled in a career-high 17 rebounds against Kent State on Feb. 16, which equaled the most by a Miami player since Danny Horace recorded 17 rebounds in back-to-back games against Ball State (Dec. 4, 2004) and at Wright State (Dec. 8, 2004). The 17 rebounds by Mavunga and Horace are the most since John Estick swiped 18 caroms at Marshall on Jan. 21, 1998. It was five more boards than Mavunga's previous career high of 12 rebounds, achieved several times. Mavunga is averaging a MAC-leading 9.0 rpg in conference-only games.
MIAMI 500: Boasting the nation's toughest non-conference schedule--which includes the top four teams in the country according to the coaches' poll and a fifth team ranked among the AP Top 25--Miami has won five of its last six in Mid-American Conference play and used a 68-66 win at Toledo on Feb. 12 to move above .500 this season for the first time since opening the season at 2-1. Miami's 84-72 win against Northern Illinois on Feb. 9 evened its overall record to .500 for the first time since December 11 when the RedHawks were 5-5. Miami moved two games above .500 for the first time this season with an 86-80 overtime win against Kent State on Feb. 16. A one-point loss at James Madison and a loss at Akron dropped Miami back to.500 for the season. At no point this season has the No. 1 team in the country not been one of the teams on Miami's schedule.
WORKING OVERTIME: Three times this season Miami has had games go into overtime, posting a 2-1 mark in extra-period games. Behind 20 points in the extra five minutes, Miami pulled out an 86-80 overtime win against Kent State on Feb. 16. The RedHawks dropped a 73-68 overtime decision to Western Michigan on Jan. 29. For just the fourth time in program history, Miami had a game go into triple overtime when the RedHawks defeated Ohio in three extra periods on Jan. 9. It was the RedHawks' second triple-overtime game against Ohio, also winning in such fashion at Ohio on Jan. 25, 1992, 91-86. Miami's last triple overtime game was in Millett Hall on Jan. 12, 2000, defeating Ball State, 86-84. The RedHawks are now 3-1 in triple overtime and 67-43 in overtime games.
LONG RANGERS: Miami currently ranks second in the MAC in conference-only games in made 3-pointers per game (8.0) and has reached double figures for 3-pointers in four of its last seven games. Miami set a program record with 16 against Ball State on Feb. 1 and tallied 11 at Eastern Michigan (Feb. 5) and also at James Madison (Feb. 19) and 10 against Northern Illinois (Feb. 9). Miami was one shy of double figures for 3-pointers against Toledo on Feb. 12. The RedHawks have hit double figure 3-pointers in seven games this season and cracked Miami's single-season top five chart for 3-point field goals against James Madison. The RedHawks have hit 213 treys this season, which ranks fourth all-time.
ROBERTS STEPPING IT UP: Over Miami's last six games, sophomore guard Allen Roberts has really stepped up his production for the RedHawks. Roberts is averaging 15.2 ppg, is shooting an impressive 48.5 percent from the field, is 33.3 percent from 3-point range (8-of-24), has a 1.06 assist/turnover ratio and is averaging 4.8 rpg while amassing a total of two blocked shots. Roberts scored 12 of Miami's 15 first-half points at Eastern Michigan and made a key 3-point play against the Eagles with 55 seconds remaining. He scored 15 first-half points to lead the RedHawks against Northern Illinois, including a 3-pointer before the halftime buzzer to put the RedHawks up 44-38. He also scored two key layups during a 9-0 run to close out the game at Toledo to help lift Miami to a 68-66 win. He also had a career-high eight rebounds at James Madison on Feb. 19.
DOUBLE-DOUBLE2: Twice this season Miami has had two players post double-doubles in the same game, marking the first time since the 1995-96 season this has happened twice in a season. Miami had two players amass double-doubles in the same game for the second time this season on Feb. 16 vs. Kent State when senior forward Nick Winbush recorded 26 points and 12 rebounds and junior forward Julian Mavunga posted 17 points and 17 rebounds. The last time Miami had two players record double-doubles in a game in the two games during the same season was in 1995-96 when Devin Davis tallied 25 points and 12 rebounds and Ira Newble posted 18 points and 11 rebounds against Wright State on Dec. 27, 1995 and Davis tallied 17 points and 14 rebounds, while Damon Frierson amassed 24 points and 11 rebounds against Fresno State on March 13, 1996. The RedHawks' first pair of double-doubles were on Jan. 19 against Akron when Winbush recorded 11 points and 12 rebounds and senior forward Antonio Ballard notched 19 points and 10 boards. The Jan. 19 double-doubles marked the first time Miami had two players with double-doubles in the same game since Feb. 4, 2006 when William Hatcher scored 14 points and had 11 assists and Nathan Peavy recorded 22 points and 12 rebounds.
MAC-ING IT: In conference play, Miami's front court duo of Nick Winbush and Julian Mavunga have been leaders of the MAC. They each rank among the top 15 scorers in the MAC (Mavunga 6th, 15.8 ppg; Winbush 15th, 13.8 ppg). The RedHawks also have two of the top five rebounders (Mavunga 1st, 9.0 rpg; Winbush 5th, 7.6 rpg). Mavunga is tied for the MAC lead in offensive rebounds (2.83) and third in the league in defensive rebounds (6.17). Winbush ranks fifth in defensive rebounds (5.85). Mavunga also ranks 13th in assists (3.17), 12th in field goal percentage (.491), 14th in free throw percentage (.734) and 14th in assist/turnover ratio (0.81). Winbush is fifth in 3-pointers (2.38) and sixth in blocked shots (1.15). Sophomore guard Chris McHenry is 14th in three-point field goal percentage (.390), while sophomore guard Allen Roberts is fourth in free-throw percentage (.853) and 30th in scoring (10.3). The only statistical category Miami does not have a player ranked among is steals.
SEWELL CRACKS STARTING LINEUP: Miami freshman guard Josh Sewell has come on strong in the final stretch of the season, sparking the RedHawks in recent games. Against Ball State, he scored 20 points to help spur the RedHawks to victory, two points fewer than his season total entering the game. Including the 20-point effort, he has scored in double figures four times in the last seven games and is averaging 9.1 points per game over that stretch. In that span, he has also matched his career-high of three rebounds, three times and is averaging 2.1 boards per game. Sewell has also shown accuracy from long distance and the free-throw line, making 50 percent of 3-pointers attempted and hitting 85.7 percent from the free-throw line in the last seven games. He also has started Miami's last two games, the first starts of his career.
SINGLE-SEASON MARKS: Senior forward Antonio Ballard, who suffered a season-ending injury on Jan. 27 at Central Michigan, finished the season tying for 10th on the single-season field goal percentage list (.560). Senior forward Nick Winbush, who cracked Miami's career 3-point field goal top-10 list a few weeks ago, is just four treys away from breaking onto its single-season 3-point field goal chart. Winbush has 59 treys this season.
REACHING 250: Miami Head Coach Charlie Coles earned his 250th win as the head coach at Miami with an 84-72 triumph over Northern Illinois on Wednesday, Feb. 9. Coles, in his 15th season at the helm, is the all-time winningest coach at Miami with 252 wins and became the Mid-American Conference's all-time wins leader for conference victories last season. He currently has 211 career MAC wins and 344 overall career wins in his 21st season as a head coach, all in the MAC.
HITTING THE CENTURY MARK: Senior forward Nick Winbush played in his 100th career game at Belmont on Dec. 30 and has played in 115 career games, the most by any active RedHawk. If he plays in the remainder of Miami's games, including at least one MAC Tournament game, he will crack Miami's all-time games played list, tying for eighth at 119 career appearances. The record is 122 by Jamie Mahaffey (1992-95).
TAKING ADVANTAGE OF CHARITY: Miami finished last season leading the conference in MAC-only games in free-throw percentage (.733) and ranking second in all games (.727), and the RedHawks seem to have picked up where they left off. This season, Miami is first in the MAC in free-throw percentage in all games (.732) and in MAC-only games (.745).
20/20 VISION: Miami had two players score in the 20s against Ball State on Feb. 1. Junior forward Julian Mavunga amassed a career-high 27 points to lead all scorers, while freshman guard Josh Sewell recorded 20 points, two less than his season total coming into the game.
DOUBLE YOUR PLEASURE: Three times this season Miami has had five players in double figures in a game. For the first time since Jan. 20, 2009 against Bowling Green, Miami had five players score in double figures against Troy (Dec. 11). Junior forward Julian Mavunga and sophomore guard Orlando Williams had 16 points apiece, while senior forward Nick Winbush and freshman guard Quinten Rollins tallied 12 points each--it is Rollins' career-high for scoring--and senior forward/guard Antonio Ballard added 10 points. Against Northern llinois on Feb. 9 Miami had five players score in double figures: sophomore guard Allen Roberts 23, Mavunga 17, Winbush 14, Williams 13, junior guard Chris McHenry 12. Against Kent State on Feb. 16 the five players in double figures were Winbush (26), Mavunga (17), Roberts (16), Williams (14) and freshman guard Josh Sewell (11). Ten times this season Miami has had four or more players score in double figures.
COMEBACK KIDS: Miami came from behind in four of its last seven games to seize wins. The RedHawks trailed by as many as 14 points in the first half against Ball State on Feb. 1 before rallying for an 89-75 win over the Cardinals on Feb. 1. Miami made a furious comeback at Eastern Michigan on Feb. 5. The RedHawks trailed by 20 with 15:24 to play and were down nine with 1:42 remaining. A 3-pointer with 1.2 seconds left by freshman forward Jon Harris gave Miami its first and final lead of the game, 58-56. At Toledo on Feb. 12, Miami trailed seven points with 3:07 to play and went on a 9-0 run to close out the game, claiming the 68-66 win. Junior forward Julian Mavunga's layup with two seconds left put Miami up for good. Against Kent State on Feb. 16, Miami trailed 13 points 14:01 to play in regulation before claiming an 86-80 overtime win.
REDHAWKS SET SCHOOL RECORD: With it 16 3-pointers against Ball State on Feb. 1, Miami set a program record for made 3-pointers, surpassing the previous mark of 15 set last year at Kentucky. Junior forward Julian Mavunga was 5-of-7 from 3-point range, while senior forward Nick Winbush sunk four on 10 attempts. Freshman guard Josh Sewell was 3-for-4 from long range, while junior guard Chris McHenry was 2-for-4. Sophomore guards Allen Roberts and Orlando Williams each went 1-for-3 from beyond the arc. The RedHawks were 11-of-19 from long range in the second half against the Cardinals.
FROM PLAYER TO COACH: Although Antonio Ballard suffered a season-ending wrist injury in the waning seconds of the Central Michigan game, he will still be a visible presence for the RedHawks. Head Coach Charlie Coles has made Ballard a student-assistant coach for the remainder of the season, siting how he values the senior forward's insight and leadership and wanting to very much keep him a vital part of the program.
BOARD BANTER: Although Miami had only outrebounded its opponents three times this season heading into MAC play, the RedHawks have only been outrebounded three in MAC action. In conference-only games, Miami leads the MAC in rebounding margin (+5.0), tie for third in rebounding (35.5 rpg) and third in defensive rebounds (24.31 rpg). Miami had a dominant effort on the boards against Ohio, amassing a whopping 50, including 20 on the offensive glass. It tied the most rebounds by a Miami team since compiling 50 at Akron on Feb. 23, 2005, and was the most since swiping 53 at Central Michigan on Jan. 5, 2002. Miami posted its second-most rebounds of the season with 47 in an overtime game against Kent State on Feb. 16. The RedHawks amassed 17 boards on the offensive glas and posted a 13-rebound margin against the Golden Flashes. Western Michigan, Toledo and Akron on Feb. 23 are the lone teams to outrebound the RedHawks.
MINUTE MEN: Both junior forward Julian Mavunga and senior forward/guard Antonio Ballard logged career highs of 55 minutes at Ohio to lead all players. Mavunga played every second of the game, while Ballard came off the court for about 20 seconds. Additionally, sophomore guard Orlando Williams notched a career-high 46 minutes of action. Mavunga leads the MAC in average minutes played this season (35.81). He also ranks first in conference-only games (36.50), while senior forward Nick Winbush ties for second (36.00). Williams ranks eighth (34.54) and sophomore guard Allen Roberts is 30th (28.86).
LENDING A HELPING HAND: In Miami's MAC games, junior forward Julian Mavunga has averaged 3.17 apg, which 13th among MAC leaders and leads the RedHawks. Mavunga tallied a career-high seven assists at Bowling Green on Jan. 16 and equaled that sum against Ball State on Feb. 1. Additionally, junior guard Chris McHenry notched a career-high six assists at Kent State on Jan. 23 and sophomore guard Allen Roberts tallied a career-most six assists at Eastern Michigan on Feb. 5.
HIGH PERCENTAGES: Entering their game against Xavier, the RedHawks were hitting 66.7 percent of their free-throws. Against the Musketeers, Miami missed just one of its 18 free-throw attempts. Its 94.4 free-throw shooting percentage against Xavier tied for sixth on Miami's single-game record list.
HIGH FIVE: Eight times this season Miami has had a player record five assists in a game. Freshman guard Quinten Rollins has hit the five-assist mark twice, a season-high sum, doing so at Bowling Green and against Cincinnati. Sophomore guard Orlando Williams also has hit the mark twice with a career-high five assists against Ball State on Feb. 1 and again at Akron on Feb. 23. Junior guard Chris McHenry doled out five against Belmont on Dec. 30. It also was the second straight game and third time in four games it happened. Junior forward Julian Mavunga handed out five assists in the season opener against Towson. Sophomore guard Allen Roberts collected five assists against Green Bay, while senior forward/guard Antonio Ballard notched five assists against Troy.
McHENRY MAKES FIRST START: Junior guard Chris McHenry, a transfer from Garden City Community College, made his first Miami start at Ohio on Jan. 9 and has started 10 games for the RedHawks. McHenry played 21 minutes of the triple-overtime thriller against the Bobcats and scored 11 points, his first double-figure effort of the season. He tallied a season-high 13 points at Kent State on Jan. 23 and played a career-high 42 minutes and scored 12 points against Western Michigan on Jan. 29 and recording 12 points vs. Northern Illinois on Feb. 9.
COLES TO BE INDUCTED INTO OHIO BASKETBALL HALL OF FAME: Miami University Head Coach Charlie Coles is one of 19 individuals who will be inducted into the Ohio Basketball Hall of Fame on May 21, 2011. He is one of five collegiate coaches to be inducted this year.
THEY ARE MIAMI THROUGH AND THROUGH: All four of the RedHawks' coaches hold degrees from Miami University: Head Coach Charlie Coles earned a bachelor's degree in physical education in 1965, associate head coach Jermaine Henderson earned a bachelor's degree in physical education in 1997, assistant coach Jason Grunkemeyer earned a bachelor's degree in physical education in 2001, while assistant coach Jimmy Lallathin earned a bachelor's degree in education in 2003.
ODDS `N ENDS: • While Miami has been receiving different contributions from various players to help fill the void with two starters out due to injury, senior forward Nick Winbush has been a consistent force for the RedHawks and the glue helping holding the team together. Winbush has played 40 or more minutes in six of Miami's last nine games and played a complete game in four of the RedHawks' last six. No matter what is needed, Winbush has come up with timely plays.

name of the article how to bet the trades
                                Nets receive: Deron Williams
Jazz receive: Devin Harris and Derrick Favors

New Jersey GM Billy King said D-Will was “ecstatic” to be playing for the Nets. Williams said his future with the franchise will depend on how next season goes and would give no guarantees he would stay.

"I'd be lying if I said I wasn't nervous about a team that was 17-40," Williams said.

That doesn’t sound like a guy who’s committed to playing out the rest of the 2010-11 campaign. Williams’ wife is also expecting a baby at any time so his mind probably won’t be on basketball for the next few weeks…time to fade the Nets.

The Jazz didn’t fare well in the first contest sans Williams but this team is better than how it has played lately. Now that all the distractions are out of the way, look for Utah to beat up on some of the weaker squads (Pistons, Kings, Raptors, Timberwolves) it faces in the next two weeks. Some have forgotten that Ty Corbin’s group is only half a game out of a playoff spot.

Thunder receive: Kendrick Perkins and Nate Robinson
Celtics receive: Jeff Green and Nenad Krstic

You have to wonder what Danny Ainge was smoking when he made this trade. Robinson is an addendum but Perkins makes Oklahoma City a real contender in the West. One of the primary problems for the Thunder against elite teams was rebounding and now they have a respectable center to do that. Bettors must keep in mind that Perkins will be out at least three games because of a strained MCL. The Thunder also obtained Nazr Mohammed from Charlotte.

There isn’t reason to fade the C’s because they were able to win without Perkins earlier this year, but caution should be used before betting on them. Green is a subpar defender and until the two O’Neals return, there will be a defensive hole in the paint.

                                Grizzlies receive: Shane Battier
                                Rockets receive: Hasheem Thabeet

Along with the Thunder, the Grizzlies were a big winner on trading day. With Rudy Gay on the sidelines for a month, many were concerned Memphis wouldn’t be able to hold onto a playoff spot. Battier makes this good defense even better.

And when Gay does return, Lionel Hollins can put O.J. Mayo and his defensively-challenged butt at the end of the bench. He’s not going to be motivated to play anyway after almost getting dealt to the Pacers. The Grizzlies appear to be a safe play from here on out but they do have a daunting schedule ahead.

Houston clearly has its eyes on the future, shipping Battier and Aaron Brooks and receiving a pair of first-round picks. Rick Adelman could start experimenting with younger rotations and if he does, the Rockets will be a team to avoid.

                                Trail Blazers receive: Gerald Wallace
Bobcats receive: Joel Przybilla, Dante Cunningham and Sean Marks

This trade looks like a steal for the Blazers but connecting all the dots might be difficult initially. LaMarcus Aldridge will now have to play center, where he is least comfortable, and Wallace will play the power forward position instead of small forward, making Portland’s lineup small. It might take some time for Nate McMillan to figure things out but once Marcus Camby returns, this frontcourt will be nasty.

Stephen Jackson seems to be losing interest (nightly minor injuries) and Michael Jordan is more concerned about saving money than winning. Don’t expect a lot of effort from the Bobcats the rest of the way.

                                Cavaliers receive: Baron Davis
Clippers receive: Mo Williams and Jamario Moon

Boom Dizzle cannot be happy about this move. Davis was genuinely excited about building the Clippers franchise with Eric Gordon and Blake Griffin. Now he has to leave his hometown and play for a team that just lost 26 straight games. Look for his balky back and knee injury to flare up with regularity the rest of the year.

As for the Clippers effect, they haven’t been playing well and the two acquisitions won’t make much of a difference. This squad just hasn’t been the same since its best player (no, not Griffin) went down with a wrist injury.

Both teams will be heavy underdogs most nights and should be avoided until further notice.

                                Hawks receive: Kirk Hinrich
                                Wizards receive: Mike Bibby

Larry Drew had grown tired of the inconsistency so he swapped floor generals. Hinrich instantly provides Atlanta with better defense and passing at the point.

The Hawks should get a shot in the arm from the heady Hinrich and after this grueling West Coast road trip, they might be undervalued by the books. Bibby is expected to ask for a buyout because he doesn’t want to back up John Wall, so there isn’t much of a ripple for the Wiz Kids.

                                      Key stat

                                      3 –
Road shutouts this season for Blackhawks rookie goaltender Corey Crawford. The young netminder from Quebec is 21-12-3 overall this year with a 2.11 goals-against average and a .923 save percentage. But he has truly has been a brick wall on opposing ice. Crawford is 9-3-3 away from the Windy City this year with a microscopic 1.75 goals-against average in those games. He also has yet to allow more than three goals in any of his 15 away starts this season.

                                      Injuries that shouldn't be overlooked

Flyers defenseman Chris Pronger left late in the third period of his team’s 4-3 overtime win against the New York Islanders with a hand injury. The team took X-ray’s which were negative on Thursday night, but Pronger was still having trouble even gripping his stick on Friday night and likely will be out against the Senators on Saturday. Pronger, who missed more than a month with a broken foot earlier this season, has four goals and 20 assists and is plus-11 this year.

“His hand is a little bit swollen,” Flyers GM Paul Holmgren said. “We did recall (Erik) Gustafsson (from the AHL), so he’ll join the team in Ottawa. Whether Chris can play or not is too soon to tell. We’ll have a better idea tomorrow.”

Beware of the Arizona Wildcats against tough defenses. The team was stunned, 65-57 at USC on Thursday night due to a stagnant offense that frequently devolved into one-on-one attacks at the rim and contested jumpers. The team finished with just two assists – the fewest for the team in 15 seasons – and Lamont James was the only starter who actually registered an assist in the game. On the season, Arizona averages 14.6 helpers per game and hadn’t had fewer than nine in a contest all year. Watch out if the Wildcats face a strong man-to-man team that can force them to slow down, play in a half-court game and be patient. “When you dribble the ball and draw two defenders, the rule is to pass,” said Arizona coach Sean Miller.

Look for the New Orleans Hornets to be well rested in the coming games. Center Emeka Okafor (11.1 points, 10.1 rebounds per game) has finally returned from a 10-game absence as he dealt with a strained left oblique. His fresh legs will be welcomed by forward David West, who took off Friday night’s game to deal with a death in the family. Though tragic, this will give his body yet another chance to heal for the stretch run, something never bad for a player averaging 19.1 points per game. And to help both out, recently acquired forward Carl Landry, along with his 11.9 points and 4.8 rebounds per game, should be ready to go after being buried in a horrendous frontcourt rotation in Sacramento. The real question now, is which player will get the most lobs from point guard Chris Paul?
