WNBA 2009 Playoff Discussion
9/11
East
Connecticut is out because of the loss to Atlanta.
If Washington loses one game they are out. They have 2 games remaining by the way.
Chicago clinches a playoff spot if Washington loses 1 game. Chicago is out if they lose their final game AND Washington wins BOTH.
Detroit clinches a playoff spot with a win.
NOW IF WASHINGTON WINS BOTH OF THEIR GAMES AND CHICAGO WINS THEIR FINAL GAME . Than it goes to a tiebreaker BUT BOTH TEAMS ARE TIED IN THE SERIES WINNING 2 EACH so... we move on to the next tie breaker...
(Chicago and Washington)...
TIEBREAKER BASIS:
(-) Tie breaker not needed (better overall winning percentage)
(1) Better record in head-to-head games. TIED
(2) Better winning percentage within own conference. TIED
(3) Better winning percentage against all teams with .500 or better record at the end of the season. TIED
(4) Better point differential in games head-to-head...
4th meeting Chicago wins by 6
3rd meeting WAshington wins by 11
2nd meeting Chicago wins by 5
1st meeting Washington wins by 9
So Washington beat Chicago by a total of 20 points in the 2 meetings
And Chicago only beat Washington by a total of 11 points in the 2 meetings
Therefore Washington outscored Chicago by 9 in all the meetings, series.
WASHINGTON WINS THE TIE BREAKER.
(5) Coin toss... NOT NECESSARY
(6) Not in playoffs
BUT IF DETROIT LOSES THEIR FINAL GAME (Chicago) AND WASHINGTON WINS THEIR FINAL 2. THAN WE OFFICIALLY HAVE CHAOS LOL...
Tiebreaker Basis
More Than Two Teams Tied.
(1) Better winning percentage among all head-to-head games involving tied teams.
(2) Better winning percentage against teams within conference (if all teams are from the same conference) or better record against teams in the opposite conference (if one or more teams are in different conferences).
(3) Better winning percentage against all teams with a .500 or better record at the end of the season.
(4) Better point differential in games involving tied teams.
(5) Coin toss.
