J.R. Smith and Knicks coach Mike Woodson reportedly "exchanged heated words" after Wednesday's loss.
Woodson criticized Smith's shot selection during and after the game, so J.R. shot back with a "lewd" comment while on the bench and then proceeded to take a single FG attempt in Friday's loss in Boston. Smith was back in the starting lineup on Saturday but only shot 1-of-8 from the field. The situation is getting ugly fast. ESPN.com reports that the Knicks may even be willing to trade Tyson Chandler if another team will also accept Smith, who comes with an ailing knee, a bad attitude, and two years remaining on his contract.
The Knicks would reportedly "consider" trading Tyson Chandler if a team also took J.R. Smith in the deal.
Smith is owed $12.2 million over the next two years, assuming he opts in for $6.4 million in the 2015-16 season, but his surgically-repaired knee continues to bother him and he's shooting an abysmal 33.3 percent from the field. Chandler is nearing a return from a leg fracture sustained on Nov. 5. and the Lakers are among a handful of teams who have expressed interest in trading for him -- L.A. is reportedly mulling an offer that would send Pau Gasol to New York.
The Lakers recently called the Knicks to "express their interest" in trading for Iman Shumpert, according to ESPN's Chris Broussard.
The call was described as "due diligence" since the Knicks are known to be shopping Shumpert, though previous reports suggest they'd like to package him with Amare Stoudemire in any deal. Broussard reports that L.A. is also considering making a separate offer in which they'd send Pau Gasol in exchange for Tyson Chandler, and we'll let you know if these trade scenarios turn into anything substantial.
