this contract extesion is perfect for everyone because it directly addresses most people's needs.
Needs of the Kobe-tard: The die-hard Kobe-tard Laker fan needs for "Kobe to be No.1 in the NBA"*
the silent reasoning in the subconscious of the Kobe-tard mind (KT mathematics)
"well. since Kobe IS the HIGHEST paid player in the NBA,
he must MUST then logically be the player with the greatest value..
and the player with the greatest value.. MUST be the best"*
No.1 salary = greatest value = best player
For this kind of fan, it is better to dwell in yesterday's glory, than it is to look at today's mediocrity.
Which is why we will doubtlessly hear M-V-P chants the very time Kobe takes a Free-Throw
at the staples Center this season (even though he has won a single award in 17 seasons of play)
Kobe act like a drug in the brain for the Kobe-tard. It is interesting to note, for anyone
that has intimately known an addict.. what occurs when another tampers with their
source of their daily fix. Almost leading the league in scoring while averaging over
20 shots/pg can still create the sense of superiority that most naturally crave.
Speaking for myself, i am not (at all) a Kobe-fan, i find his lack of willingness to share
the spotlight offensive. This move keeps Kobe and the Lakers out of contention for the
remainder of Kobe's presence on the Lakers... and beyond. After all the luxury taxes are paid,
it should greatly restrict the Lakers, and likely will require 3-4 yrs to build a contender
after Kobe's departure. Realistically, the true Laker fan is looking at 2018-
or beyond before the Lakers might grace the West Conference Finals once again.
The only person that is not served by this ridiculous transaction; is the educated
and conscious Laker fan (there is smaller number of those). Every now a gain a
man sits in a crack-den and says to the man passing him the crack-pipe
"we are just wasting out time here. This cannot be the path to happiness" *
The jury for the moment is out on wether this investment was in the Lakers best interest. ..
but i can tell you for a fact, that it's going to hit the fan after Kobe comes back
for a handful of games, and we all see what kind of player we are looking at presently,
and how much this shackles the potential for growth in the near-future for the Lakers.
The glory of yesterday cannot win championships today.
