    If Kobe gets back...
And he manages to be 100% can this team be a real threat in the playoffs with a healthy Steve Nash and D'antoni's system?

    No. No way.

First, because Kobe at 120% will never be that much a benefit in D'antoni's system. Second, because even if Nash stays healthy, is not even that good anymore. Actually, Nash is one my favourite players ever, and right now I'm kind of rooting for a retirement from him. Last night even Steve Blake looked quicker than him. And third, how in the hell are they going to win games when they can't even play defense? Last night in one of the worst offensive performances I've seen from a team in this season, the Rockets still were on the brink of winning that game despite right to the last second, and they weren't playing good defense themselves for at least 30 minutes of that game. There's just no way around the lack of talent in that team. People think: "how nash, with the shooters, and kobe and gasol and even kaman and young, they're not that bad", the problem is, what's the common denominator amongst all those guys right now? Bad defenders, bad as hell.

    So no, no way.

Hm... what im thinking is that kobe creates lots of open spaces on the floor and on the perimeter. With pau in the paint and a bunch of young guns eager to take the open shot is it worth it to take lakers chip at 55:1? Im not saying they win the chip but there would be some interesting hedge opportunities down the line, no? My thought is that the lakers could be around 20:1 come playoff time. I see some serious value here i think its worth a shot. Anybody agree?

          you are a Laker/Kobe fan...

          1) you are absolutely 100% correct: Kobe DOES create a lot of open spaces on the floor

PROBLEM: Kobe will take the shot attempt over two players in his face.. and brick the shot, rather than pass to a wide open PAU
or any other player. Those are all HIS shots.

whatever success the Lakers may enjoy will vanish the instant the Emperor returns. mice tend to play when the cat is gone.

          2) the Lakers squeaked out a last second win.. single point victory on a Hail Mary, and you are thinking playoff plan?!?!

          "ok. listen, man
you are just infatuated... that girl is no good for you... "

Bryant is still the best playoff player in the West by a mile so yeah they can be a threat to anyone in the West.

Bryant is a lock down defender when he wants to be. Most defensive 1st teams in nba history. Maybe he focuses on that end a bit more this year with him having a few more weapons on the outside than he did last year.

I think the Lakers can easily make the playoffs. Already locked that in at +260 before the seasosn.

              hi Riff.. how are you?

Question for Scenario 1: how are they going to make the 2nd Round of they miss the playoffs altogether?

Question for Scenario 2: how are they going to make the 2nd Round of they play*a 1 or 2 Seed?*

I'm not a Laker fan, and I like Kobe but not like a lot of other guys who seem to be in love with him.

Not a chance, but they can certainly make the playoffs as the refs will aid them along the way. The problem is is that Kobe is your classic ball stopper...currently, they are swinging the ball very effectively against perimeter defenders...Kobe's arrival will bring all of that to a halt...and destroy the chemistry the team currently has. However, Kobe may not be able to create off the dribble like he did before the injury...and thus he may very well become a permanent spot up shooter..if this is indeed the case, he may not be a hindrance after all, but he will sure jack up a lot of shots...

You said that before last year started. Should I find the quote for you? I guess your definition of washed up is 3rd in the league in scoring? Yup, he's done. Don't reply with your 2 page long shit. I won't even return to this thread to read it.
