What was I saying about the NBA being a bad product?
Oh yeah -- Pistons vs. Pacers.
I just watched that first half, and my eyes are literally bleeding.

Had the the first half under.
This is two totals in a row I have hit.
Shocking.
But yes, it is a bad product unless the top 8 teams are playing.

Detroit is dominant in the post, and Jennings and Smith are a combined 8 for 27 in 30 minutes.
Keep chucking you pieces of shit. I can't believe I'm still a fan of this sad-sack franchise.

I've been a Piston fan for 30+ years.
I literally can't stand Brandon Jennings. Never have been able to. I really might just start ignoring this team and take up knitting or something until college hoops starts.

hang on....so because the score was 29-14 indy in q1 and then the opposite in q2 (27-9 det), this is a bad product? youve never liked the swings in hoops, and thats what makes the league good to me. for every time you're on the wrong side of a big swing, i guarantee you are also getting those swings in your favor - but as gamblers we dont remember the good beats
i gotta be honest coin....i just dont think youve ever really been a fan of hoops. the way youre talking, this would be a better product if indy won each qtr 29-14 for a 60 pt win.

I was going to start a similar thread an hour ago.
Waiting for the football to begin, I decided to watch the first half of the Bobcat / Knicks first half.
Just ugly, brutal, ummmm, basketball, is that what you call that?
No fundamentals, bricked jump shots, and yes, they are still flopping too.

I'm a huge fan of hoops. I've been playing ball since I was 5. Played all the way through high school and I'm still on the court a few times a week despite the fact that I'm pushing 40.
I'm not saying there aren't swings and runs in basketball. Of course there are. But this is ridiculous. I've loved the NBA for forever up until about five years ago. The overall product gets worse by the year. These guys are all freakishly athletic and talented, but none of them know how to play ball. They don't play hard, fundamentals are non-existent -- it's a disrespect to the game.
To me, pro ball peaked in the 80's and 90's. Before then, it was too fundamental and lacking athleticism. Then for a while, we had the perfect storm where guys went all-out to win, respected the game, played it the right way but also introduced a new athletic style to the court.
Once the money started to flow in, though, it became more and more about the "I" and less and less about the team. Basketball is supposed to be a team game. It's not about the individual. This Piston performance is a perfect example of what I'm talking about -- Jennings and Smith would rather shoot 25 times a game than help their team win. Why? Because they are trained to think, with the big contracts, that that is what the franchise wants.
This league is watered-down and filled with me-first losers now. But hey, at least Josh Smith will make more in one season than Bird or Magic or Dr. J did in five, right?

so go watch a college game. two of the best teams in the country and the final score will be 40-35. solid, solid athletes in college. that's why less than 1% make it to the bigs

ok, i never played hoops in school etc (5'11) so it sounds like youre more of a purist. i still get excited watching cp3 throws balls off the backboard to griffin during a game, where as old school bball fans prob hate that part of the game...

Again, the athleticism in the NBA during the 80's and 90's was there. It's not at the level it is now, but there were definitely entertaining players (Dr. J, Nique, MJ, etc.) who made highlight-reel plays.
Two things, though:
1) These cats would kill each other to win
2) Most of what they did was still within the context of the game and didn't affect the outcome in a negative way.
I'm not going to pretend the game was perfect back in the day, but it was a hell of a lot better than what we see now, despite the fact that the athleticism of NBA players is off the charts.

Jennings and Smith are literally embarrassing themselves tonight.
9 for 30 from the field, 1 of 9 from distance, 8 turnovers. Solid.

Why are some of you so surprised? There is a good list of players who are known to have very bad off games. Both Jennings and Josh Smith in that list and they are on the same team you can throw Jrue Holiday on that list too I remember he went like 1-22 (fgs) last year or something along those lines. Not only that the Pacers are really good.

Good luck.

I don't generally agree with you that the NBA is a shitshow..
But man, this Mavs/Thunder game is just brutal. I swear both teams must have about 50 turnovers each by now. And it doesn't have much to do with swarming defense at all.

I can't believe I have to explain this to you.
there are over 900 college teams nationwide, of which almost 300 teams are considered Division I, all told over 10000 college kids played college ball last year. Are you capable of basic math? Lets assume you are.
There are about 400 NBA players across 30 pro teams, most of them did not retire, but let's say they all retired, there would be 400 spots open in the NBA versus 10000 college players, of course the number that gets to the pros is 1
percent.
Oh by the way, 94 percent of the players in the NBA played college ball.
