    ** Question for American bettors
Hey guys, just a question for people who use american style odds (ie. +400, -600 etc)

Im from NZ, and we use decimal amounts which is easy to understand. But my question is, what is an easy way to determine the value of a parlay given the individual odds american style? I can do the math manually myself, but seems a lot more effort than using the decimal odds.

Im just trying to determine the odds of peoples parlays they post, but cant be bothered doing the maths.

My example is this parlay below

    leg 1 : $2.60 (NZ) or +160 (US)
    leg 2 : $1.85 (NZ) or -117.7 (US)
    leg 3 : $3.20 (NZ) or +220 (US)

    using fractional odds, the parlay value is easily calculated as : 2.60 x 1.85 x 3.20 = 15.39 (or +1439 US)

how do I do this quickly and easily using US odds? I understand the logic of the US odds (for unit betting etc) but makes it a nightmare to calculate the odds of a parlay... help please?

    Thanks in advance

if a od is -110 means you win 100 for every 110 bet and so on for every - negative is for every 100 you bet
if is +160 you win 160 for every 100 you bet.
For parlays you have ti add every amount you earn and multiplied for + odds and divide on - odds
      Example

2 tm parlay with odss betting 100
      -110
      +200

      First bet of the leg is 100 / 110 = 90.90 + initial 100 190.9
second leg 190.9 x 2 (number of times your bet is multiplied) = 381.8 + your initial 100.

I hope I made myself clear enough.

My mistake the final number is 381.8 + 190.9 from second leg.

Thanks for that. I kind of get it...

I know how to calculate parlays using american odds, but it just seems like alot more effort than decimals.

I still dont really understand the point of even using american odds... does everyone like to know how much $100 would get them for + odds (or how much it would take to return $100 for - odds)?

Also, I understand that if the odds are negative, then your team is the favourite, but all that can easily be interpreted using the decimal odds too... (less than $2.00 is favourite...)

I just dont get the point of american odds, is there any clear advantage over decimal? is there any history why they even still use it?

a little history lesson. American odds a are throw back to the street bookie days where bets where done in back alleys and there were no calculators. Its far easier to visualize and compute "you will win $110 for every $100(+110)" when you're doing a quick illegal street bet.
