    F1 from Vegas Saturday Night

A brand new race, at a brand new weird time of day. Motorsport fans seem to be extra excited for this (not so much the locals)

Thursday 8.30PM and Midnight (local LV time) Practice Sessions 1 & 2
Friday 8.30PM and Midnight - Practice 3 and Qualifying
    Saturday 10.30PM Race

With no rubber down, no support races, the road only being closed off completely 90 mins before sessions start, high minimum tire pressures allowed and the extra cold temps expected, we could see some surprising results in the first practice session.

Valtteri Bottas is known to be head and shoulders above everyone else on a dirty, slippery, slick new track surface. Although he is in a lower tier car, the Alfa Romeo, he is way into +EV at current odds of 125/1.

Alex Albon at 60/1 is another who could easily pull off a surprise and top Practice 1.

Some books are offering Lando Norris to win race WITHOUT Max Verstappen in market +250

That would be my only other early bet at this stage.

Bet365 has Bottas +5000 for Top 3 in Practice 1.

I don't know if it's a bad line or not but I think it's crazy good value.

It’s really congested everything for locals. I could barely get to the airport 2 days ago. I know quite a few people who either work on the strip or have to cross the strip for a variety of reasons so that’s the rub. They even cut down the trees in front of the Bellagio and Mirage. Money talks but the question is, will it all be worth it? Ticket prices have also plummeted. To be continued…

It's the same in every city they do a new street course in. Lots of upset year one but it tends to feel a lot less intrusive to locals after that. F1 are good at handling this once construction is done and they learn what is needed after the first race.

I think Vegas will make so much from this over the 10 year contract that the people will want to sign up to keep it longer.

Plus F1 will do things like find eyesore buildings and empty land the city wants developed and do it as time goes on.

The tickets were stupid prices compared to every other race. I'll be happy if they come down and stay down as I would really like to attend next year and get the best tix.

Half the battle is setting expectations. To your point, I don’t know that anyone knew what to expect locally. I’m sure it will iron our over time. What’s funny is some of the people going nuts act like they are going to protest or something. The decision is out of your hands like the Raiders coming and now the A’s.

Is there a guarantee for future years? It's just not generating the interest they thought it would.

The A's move to Vegas seems rushed and an odd choice(are many visitors really going to want to attend a game in the heat of the summer)? Is there any guarantee the owner is going to actually spend money to field a decent team if the deal goes through? Is he going to continue to have one of the lowest payrolls in MLB? What's is the pulse out there with the locals? The A's brand has gone downhill a lot with their miserly ways and I would not be that thrilled for that to come to my city.

There seems like better options around the country for a MLB franchise other than Las vegas.

Annoying. I like to go to Vegas in October and it's a bit of a mess.

    LV gonna regret this.

I heard everything has been an absolute nightmare for those that work on the strip and visitors alike. Supposedly many workers are being told to leave for work hours prior to their shifts starting.

Formula 1 isn't even a race, it's a fukkin parade and a shitty one at that; I hope a monsoon hits right before the race.

FWIW, I heard the stadium would have a retractable roof so it's not like folks would be sitting in the blazing sun at 115 degrees during an afternoon game in August.

    over 450 million global eyeballs.

Makes NFL look small time to a marketer of any global product.

I don’t think so. It sucks. No one knows the drivers, I don’t see any market value here. Same with soccer. The only reason soccer is famous is because poor people can play too. Just need grass and a ball.

Yeah F1 has been trying to break the USA market puzzle for a long time without a lot of success.

But they appear to be making inroads this time.

Now 3 races in the country and Andretti/Cadilac starting a new all US team soon and Americans also own the sport.

This Vegas race really is like no other on the calendar. It's not only going to bring 100-200k people to the city for race week, it should have a big effect on foreign tourism year round.

It's not just getting Americans to watch F1 either. It's getting international people to take more notice of Indycar.

Had a points bet with JJ about 5 or 6 years ago that f1 would be the most popular motorsport in USA within 10 years. I think it's on track.

If you live in Vegas and have never seen an F1 race "live' in your life, then you should go see a doctor if you don't go out of your way to see it. Try it out. If you still aren't amazed or excited after, then go watch golf instead because you are a boring person.

    Well that is frustrating.

Man hole cover was sucked up and destroyed a Ferrari.

    Session stopped after 10 mins.

    Bets lose for P1.

Guess I will take Bottas and Albon again for P2 top 3 at midnight LV time.

I heard there may be somewhat of invasion of super long snakes headed to general LV area starting some time 3-5 years from now possibly in thousands & thats only accounting for all the empties amassed along the way between the old Coliseum & LV.

I love that they let fans stay and spend their money and then kicked them out at 2:00 right before P2 started at 2:30. And you know they won't refund shit.

I don’t like it. A lot of those people were local and it’s the only price point they could touch. They pretty much have given the community the finger. They even turned law enforcement loose to start ejecting people. A $200 gift shop voucher. Please.

    This was funny too…

“We have all been to events, like concerts, games and even other Formula 1 races, that have been cancelled because of factors like weather or technical issues,” read the statement. “It happens, and we hope people will understand.”

Nope- never been to an event that cancelled on me and/or didn’t offer either a rain check or full refund. Not one time ever.

And FP2 wasn't even cancelled. They still held the session, they just didn't let the people that bought tickets for it stay and watch.
