Horse Racing questions and answers -
Sportsbook Review Forum
I just love the fact that C. Clement is methodically picking off spots for Deterministic that make sense and allows the horse to have every opportunity to gain confidence and grow mentally. You don't see that as much these days it doesn't seem. Everybody is always in such a hurry. I will look at that race as well but have to think he is perfectly spotted.
World record is liable to be lost way out there.
I will take a look. Could be a great setup for him. Hope so. More after I look at the pp's.
Thanks JBEX.

Our rough guess is that she’ll be in the ring somewhere on either side of 6:00 p.m. ET. Live coverage of the sale will be available here.
On Wednesday, Guinevere’s dam brought $65K and her Epicenter weanling half-sister $40K. Hip 339, another Justify racing/broodmare prospect, RNA’d for $70K. It’s fair to say those weren’t the most encouraging sales results as far as how they relate to Guinevere, but every horse is an individual.
A reserve will be set tomorrow much closer to when Guinevere will be offered and once we have a better feel for her level of popularity, but she will definitely have a reserve.
Best of luck. We’ll report back on what she brings some time tomorrow evening.
Anyone that has never watched an auction of a horse should take the time to watch this live if you have even a little interest. It will only last a couple of minutes and it gets kind of exciting when rooting for Batt to get a price. If we know the reserve beforehand it will just add more intrigue but certainly understand that posting that number ahead of time would be counter productive to getting the best price.
Maybe do a little math beforehand if you are going to watch it and set a price based on what her dam and weanling 1/2 sister went for in your mind. A different part of the overall game for sure but the tie in is, it is gambling. And that most likely appeals to most people here.
GL Batt. Enjoy watching Keenland live! It is really cool there. I really enjoyed my time there.

I enjoyed the sales also! Always fun to see what horses bring! There always seemed there were a few horses that people in the "business" new there was going to be some action on.....
I have to admit knowing what the " reserve" only as to the intrigue as you "knew" and it was a "thrill" to go beyond that and a "bummer" not hitting the mark.
She was bought for $925k.... So It wasn't encouraging to see the family related prices... Hopefully she had some lookers come around and took a look at her. More importantly a bidding war insues lol.

Guinevere Update Guinevere sold for $90,000 at Keeneland November. That’s right around where we had her valued and we’re pleased with that result considering all factors. She was purchased by one of our prior partners on her, RT Racing. We wish them the best of luck.
A couple of video's one from the sale and just prior to entering... Just a different perspective for those who have never attended.
Boy the second one reminds me of leading one up to the sale and almost back to the barn lol... where the groom bailed me out lol....
We have around 22 horses in the barn.... and 4 were selling relativity close together... We had two ladies who were leading up the horses(no one wants to look at me lol) the barn manager(Jim) was leading up an "enthusiastic" horse.(first of the group)
Groom comes up and says" Listo go poncho" showing me the shank....... I'm like what??? oh geez now I hear the hip numbers getting called up to the "outer pen"...oh geez okay..." tell Jim where I'm at and send one of the girls to bail me out!!" Wait says the groom... Jacket? ah poop okay... squeeze my large frame into the biggest medium.... and I'm off.
As I walk up to the outer pen I see Jim on the other side exit leading one back... I'm like cool Jim has to see me!
So I go through the first outer ring... people want to feel the horse and look at the conformation ... so far so good..... Okay where is Jim??
I go through the second ring.... Okay now I know one of the girls has to be back and where in the poop are they?? all the while trying to get the horse to stand up and strike a poise.... some horses are getting antsy..... (thinking to myself remember what you have been told.... shake the shank..... keep them occupied)
Now we are getting to inside" second video" ..... well now I'm at the point of no return.... every thing goes fine... I hand off the shank to the sales team and set down for a minute.... Felt like 5 seconds '"and sold!!" they hand the shank back to me ... now I'm really P.oed... going to speak my mind when I get back to the barn I told myself.
The Groom is at the gate and I hand the shank to him..."Did you tell the girls about me " "Yes" well WTF!!
I get back to the barn and make a bee line to the girls...... Uhm did ya notice anything missing???? LIKE ME and a horse??
"yes" but Jim said stay here.... oh did he.....
I find Jim.... did ya see me on your way back? did ya notice an empty stall? Yes.... he says.... He asked me did you have any problems?? no I stammer... was it fun? kinda.... Well then he states" what's your point?"
I had none.... except I got to do something that was pretty cool..... at least to me.... Mind you I was a firefighter and only did the horse sales in the winter time as stated before.... ah the memories STR!
would you agree besides the consistent good performances overall
that it's kind of an interesting resume deterministic is putting together..such good dirt races in first two and then showing he could be effective at all distances of turf routes ?

That seems like a very fair price for her Batt. It also seems like a fair gamble on the buyers part to pay that. Kind of a win/win if you will.
I know the crowd seems small but there are railbirds all across the back no doubt as well as bidder or two on the phone.
I base my assessment of the price on what the weanling and the mare sold for. Bottom line is , it sounds about right too me.
Batt, and others. Did you notice no hind shoes on your mare selling? That is typical as there is no need for them anymore and it makes everyone around her just a little safer just in case. Also, you can feel how the bidding starts to lose steam, cuts in half and ends. Kind of cool to watch that happen.
Thanks Batt !

A couple of notes.
Attractive young ladies leading up the horses are typically good for a bid or two. Just the way the world works Batt. Lol.
Those small jackets: Lololol. Reminds me of what my father in law used to say. "That looks like 10 lbs. of crap in a 5 pound bag".
Shake the shank , keep them occupied. Yep. They usually can only focus on one thought at a time. You pick the thought, not them.
Felt like 5 seconds: Been there, done that.
Great story. In hindsight do you regret it? Heck No. Would you want to try it again? Heck no. Quit while you are ahead. You can tell your grandkids you walked a horse, make is Secretariat , what the hell, through the sales ring. Tell them... nothin to it. Story's only get bigger as we go right Batt ?

Was able to look. The turn back in distance might help as well as the surface change. There are a few that look like they fit the race but he does as well.
I saw nothing that I could say is a negative.
I’ll check the results later.

game as hell right to the wire..fought back on the inside to miss by a nose to a 22-1 winner ( he was 5-2) ..had to have a lot of bottom from those turf routes

Yes I agree withe the price...and figured around as much.... I was thinking that they would set the reserve higher.
I didn't notice the shoes....... But I did follow the cadence of the auctioneer and the bidding.

HAHA so true!
The 2 year old in training sales have alot more "backside" action" they want to get one more look or feel the legs of the horses! just for the rest of the group to get perspective.... as I know STR is well aware of it!

Liams maps seem to need more distance... 2 was slow into stride .... but still ran okay!
Trainer D. Wayne Lukas reports that Caldera remains in good order coming out of his debut. While we were thinking that Caldera could get one more start in at Churchill before the end of the meet, The Coach is leaning towards waiting an extra week or so and instead pointing for a race at Oaklawn for Caldera’s next try. There’s a one-mile MSW on Dec. 7 that looks like the most likely target for your son of Liam's Map. We’ll report back with more once Caldera returns to the work tab.

Real Savvy Update With winter closing in and turf season ending in New York soon, we have elected to give Real Savvy some time off on the farm. After discussing with your trainer Christophe Clement and assessing the competitive landscape, we felt this was the best decision. Being a bigger-sized juvenile, the time off will only help him, allowing him time to grow into his frame and mature mentally. Your son of Authentic will head to Ciaran Dunne’s Wavertree Stables in Ocala, Florida where he will get the rest of 2024 off from training and get to let down and just be a horse. He will then start back up training at Wavertree early in the new year with the goal of being back in Christophe’s barn sometime in March, prior to the turf opening up in New York.

We’ll report back with more once Caldera returns to the work tab.
has a nice foundation to stretch out and definitely more bred to route with "tiz now" as the dam sire

Such a sound and smart move. I am jealous. I rarely had that kind of leeway with my horses. It takes money to do that. I think it is the perfect way to give him his best chance to be who he can possibly be.
That's good stuff Batt .

Again, it is a smart move IMO. More ground almost certainly has to be a good thing. Never know for sure but the odds are really in it's favor.

No. All kidding aside, hope he is not sick or hurt. About the only two things I could think of. Maybe a slight temperature and he will be fine in 3 days. Sure hope it is something like that.
