Philadelphia beat Boston easily, but the Colorado vs St.Louis game ended 2-1 score in regulation as Colorado squeezed in the winning goal as time expired. So my totals picks continue to fail.... there were plenty of penalty calls as I expected.... 6 on St.Louis and 3 on Colorado.... but the quality of the shots I thought were pretty bad, especially by the Avalanche players, which I failed to foresee.

The pending series and futures bets will be recorded when they are determined.

Tuesday August 4 - Opening Round GAME 2

My thinking for the series at this point, if the Panthers win this Game 2, then I can buy-back a hedge on the Islanders at lower odds on the series bets.

I'm going with this type of wager offered by the book I use for NHL. Although the favorite costs more juice this way, it takes any Overtime result out of the equation.

Reason for the play is Toronto cannot risk going down for a second time in this Opening Round series. Too much at stake, and they are the more talented team in my opinion. So I expect them to play like their life / career depends on it.

tough game to call because both teams are winless in their two previous Round Robin games. This outcome makes the most sense to me, although its a guess as to who wants to win this game - the prize for winning today is getting the NY Islanders in the next series. I come to the conclusion Washington might be the side that doesn't try as hard, plus they have a couple players out today.

The winner will be the No. 3 seed and face the New York Islanders which holds the No. 6 seed, in a best-of-7 series in the Eastern Conference First Round.

As the No. 4 seed, the loser will play the Carolina Hurricanes, the No. 5 seed.

just believing Toronto finds a way to advance, especially after matching the 3-goal comeback win (Columbus did it in Game 3, then Toronto did it in Game 4). It would not surprise me if this game goes to Overtime again which the previous two games already did.

The winner goes on to face Tampa Bay in the next round.

The loser will have a 12.5 percent chance of winning the No. 1 pick in the 2020 NHL Draft in the Second Phase of the NHL Draft Lottery on Monday.

Terrible. Every assumption I make got proved wrong. Very first thing I posted for the playoffs was Montreal series win over Pittsburgh, then dropped off a cliff.

Toronto losing game 5 to Columbus was a big -8.25 units chunk.

The record keeping was current thru Aug.4 games, so now its all up-to-date including the Aug.6-9 game picks, and the Florida series losses (counts as 2 losses, bet at different odds).

I've got a great price on the Philadelphia futures bet to win it all, as they won all 3 of their Round Robin games and really got people's attention.

However, you will see I'm using some hedging strategy with the new bets, including a Montreal series bet (vs Philly), as I do think they are a live dog, just as I thought they were going against Pittsburgh.

I didn't love any spot in Tuesday's game schedule, nor the early day games today. Figured with my poor results, it would be better for me to observe the games. 5x Overtime game 1 saw Tampa outlasting Columbus!

I shopped for the best prices earlier today on these new wagers, so I don't know if the odds have moved with or against me, but these lines were available a couple hours earlier this afternoon. ...

Cappers might be thinking the back-to-back between these teams works in favor of the Canucks, but I say opposite, it actually takes away from the speed/skill advantage of the Canucks and benefits the Blues style. St.Louis is starting Jake Allen in net once again, which seems to be the right move, as Binnington was not performing well. St.Louis can tie the series 2-2 tonight, or go down 3-1.

OK, so now the situation presents itself to carry out my plan. Dallas has all the momentum now up 3-2 games in the best of 7 series. Matthew Tkachuk got a leg injury and has not played since game 2, could be back in tonight but its a gametime decision. That injury was impactful. I'm still going to follow-thru on a series bet now on Calgary which guarantees me some profit regardless of which team prevails.

I like this game 1 to be decided by one goal, think it could go either way.
Playing it this way, both could lose and put me down -2 units.
But if one of them wins, I'm up net on the game either +1.80 units or +2.50 units.

Whereas the Dallas +1.5 puckline is showing around -180 odds, a loss would result in -1.80 units vs only +1.00 units for a win. That's the reason I'm playing it this way.

I might come back with a standard side or total for this game before it starts.

Dallas whooped that azz in Game 1, by final score 5-3. Colorado went about 3 minutes with an empty net, no goals were scored, when Dallas got the puck during that sequence they just iced it.

I went ahead and booked the longshot to win their Conference and then the Cup.
My thinking is Vegas or Vancouver will be the team going to the Finals from the West.
I'm not betting these Vancouver futures as any type of certainty.
These are to possibly make a large score and for hedging opportunity later.
Having said that, there is a lot to like about how this team is playing right now.
Jacob Markstrom is playing out of his mind.

Right now, Vegas is +130 to win the West, and +330 to win the Cup. Those odds are not enticing.

Looking at my pending Series bets, if I consolidate just the Round 2 Series bets, more simply:

TAMPA BAY: SERIES = total of 7.75 units risked // To Win 8.50 units ----> +109 odds average

PHILADELPHIA: SERIES = total of 5.50 units risked // To Win 7.10 units ----> +129 odds average

I expect both of those to win. Unfortunately, by betting both of these teams prior to BOTH their Game 1 losses, it cost me on getting the best odds (meaning it would have been great to wait on both teams until they were down 0-1 in the series to get the better odds, but I would have run the risk of missing had they won game 1 instead).

Regarding the Flyers vs Islanders series - I'm not in denial of the appearance of the games, and the perception that the Islanders are the better team (to say it simply).... Plus the idea that the Flyers are not getting the most from key players, until game 2 from the start they went out to an early 3 goal lead, but then backed off and allowed the Islanders to comeback with 3 unanswered to force overtime, making for a very scary situation until the Flyers got a fluke goal from a deflected shot off an Islander early in the overtime of game 2.

Rather than debate the merits and deficiencies of these teams, I see them as even in many categories but not all, and the big one for me = the Goalies. Flyers have the Canadian youngster Carter Hart, and his countryman backup veteran Brian Elliott. Meantime the Islanders have the Russian-born Semyon Varlamov.... who although has looked good/great en route to setting the Islanders franchise record for most scoreless minutes played... he is not a goalie I trust, based on his career up until now. The backup is German-born Thomas Greiss.

I don't need to go into the goalie stats, I'm simply saying I trust Carter Hart way more than Varlamov for the series. The remaining games are gonna be hard to call game-to-game, but I'm happy to have the Flyers now at +129 to win the series.

As for my pending Futures,
ok so I got a total of 5 units risked on the longshot Vancouver,
plus 2.50 units risked on the Flyers to win the Cup.
These can be hedged if they make it that far, or how about I stumble into a great situation where they face each other in the Finals!

I seem to get these exotics wrong a lot, but going with Boston to come out hungrier to start the game.

I think Tampa will win today's game. So if the bet goes right, look for a live bet spot later in the game on Tampa.
